My favorite dark ride. It has a couple of neat effects (especially driving down the pier, getting hit by the train, and going to hell). And, in my mind, it most closely captures the spirit of the classic "funhouse" ride that was the predeceesor of the Disney dark rides.

free association

. . . One of the main reasons I've always liked this ride is because of the hell scene. The heat was (and still is) the coolest effect. And it's always a relief once the ride is over because the car moves out into the cool air. . .
. . . This is the most roller coaster-like of the dark rides. . .

pointless trivia

  • Unlike the other Fantasyland dark rides, Mr. Toad is not a three-dimensional representation of the movie but is rather a scenario derived from the cartoon. We never actually see Mr. Toad on a "wild ride" in the movie but we can well imagine it. (The E-Ticket, Winter 1994-95)
  • Mr. Toad's full name is J. Thadeus Toad (Ibid)
  • The ride was refurbished in 1983, increasing the the ride's cramped floor space. Added during this time were "Winkie's Pub" (with the spinning beer mugs), the real-working fountain, the Prosector who yells "Guilty" as we go by, the prison, and a much more demonic "Jaws of Hell" which includes the Prosecutor as the devil. (Ibid)
  • The unintelligible yet catchy theme music is called "The Merrily Song."(Ibid)
  • The coat of arms for Mr. Toad bears the motto, Toadi Acceleratio Semper Absurda, which is roughly translated into "Speeding with Toad is always absurd" (Disneyland - Memories of a Lifetime) - search for it on amazon.com
