Hi, I am the mascot from Oviedo, FL. Here is what I have been up to!
Sept. 14, 1999
Well, here is some excitement to tell
you about. My school has been shut down for two days due to Hurricane Floyd. We are right now in the direct path of this massive hurricane. It is bigger than the entire state of
Florida. It is almost to a stage 5 hurricane that will make it the biggest hurricane here this century.
Needless to say...I am staying in a safe spot but won't be mailed til at least Thursday. Then only if all the buldings here
are still standing. All the grocery stores are almost
depleted of food and I was unable to find batteries on the way home tonight. We usually don't worry too much about these things because we are inland BUT this one is different!!!

I have had a busy week in kindergarten. I just adore Buda,
Texas. Today we practiced our first school fire drill. I followed directions
perfectly and hope I can practice a fire drill at every school I visit.
I was also very impressed by the Buda Volunteer Firetruck. I loved the loud
siren and enjoyed watching the firefighters shoot the water out of the big
hose. I have been practicing the song called "Stop, Drop, and Roll!"
Next week we will begin a unit on Spiders.The children will bring real
spiders to our classroom for us to research, sort, and classify. We will see
many different varieties of spiders we can collect. We will keep the spiders
in a closed jar all week....because some of us are very scared of spiders.
When we are finished with our spider unit will will let the spiders go by our
creek at Buda Primary School.
I can hardly believe my time in Texas is almost over. I will be ready to
go to Mrs. Gaines' kindergarten class in a little over a week. My how time
flies when you are having a good time!

November 15, 1999
I have been having fun in Mrs. Gaines' class. I liked learning
about pumpkins and Indians. I likes to watch
the kids tell about their totem poles. I liked to make teepees. I liked helping count. Mrs. Gaines' class has been in school 61 days. I liked to do alphabet papers. Today we worked on capital V. I liked to do centers. I liked our class meeting.
The kids liked learning about manatees. Manatees live in the ocean. Manatees can stay underwater for 20 minutes.
I like it when the kids get stamps for being good.
I am on my way to Ohio!
