We love these cute bears! But, do we really know what they are like? How they live, what they eat? Are they really cute, fuzzy animals? Well, if you are wondering these things, then it looks like you have come to the right place!
In a lot of ways, polar bears are like humans. First of all, the way they walk. Although they walk on a fours, then start by putting their heels down and then their toes. Like many other bears, they can stand on their hind legs, and walk for a small while.
When cubs are born, they are about a foot long (30 cm.), and weigh around 16 to 24 ounces. Cubs are born very small, and helpless, with their eyes closed. When a cub is born, their fur is very fine, which makes the cub appear to be hairless. They will keep close to their mothers for body heat.
A cub will open it eyes sometime during the first month, and then start to walk in it's den around two months. The cubs don't leave the den right away. They will often stay around the den for about 12 more days, sometimes even longer. This allows them to strenghten their walking muscles, and get used to the colder weather. During this time, a cub will still spend the majority of their time sleeping at the den during the night.
Young polar bear cubs (babies) will chase and tackle their siblings!
