DEDICATION

To the men of what has been described as the "fighting" and the "valiant" 275th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. The unit was activated April 15, 1943 at Camp Phillips, KS as a truck drawn 105MM artillery outfit and was converted to a self-propelled Armored Battalion after arriving at Camp Campbell, KY in January of 1944. Their campaigns were in Northern France, the Ardennes (including the Schnee Eifel, St. Vith in the Battle of the Bulge), the Rhineland and Central Europe, finally to be part of the occupation forces of Germany a few weeks prior to V-E Day. They were ordered back to Camp Bowie, TX, reporting for redeployment training on August 14, 1945 for the Pacific Theater, but with the ending of the war the unit was deactivated. The men of this unit fought with uncommon tenacity, courage, honor and valor. The unit was awarded The Presidential Unit Citation and the Belgium Fourragere and individual decorations consisting of: 30 Purple Hearts, 8 Silver Stars, 34 Bronze Stars, 5 Air Medals, 2 Soldiers Medals and 38 Certificates of Merit.

The story of the 275th AFA Bn is a sum of the memories and experiences of these courageous men. We greatly appreciate those, both relatives and veterans, who have shared their knowledge and photos of the 275th. Any input from those who served in units that the 275th AFA Bn was attached to operationally will be welcomed. We will appreciate your sharing any information that you have about the 275th.

Contributions of recollections, documents and photos by unit members, their families and friends will continue to be appreciated to make a more detailed history of the "Valiant" 275th and more fully tell the story of the 275th during their brief, but heroic history.
