A Lion in the Meadow

by

Margaret Mahy

In Africa live huge tawny beasts called lions. They snooze during the days relentless heat and waken to catch their unsuspecting prey in the cooler hours of evening.

A long way from Africa lives a lttle boy in New Zealand. New Zealand is a land of kiwis, wood pigeons and keas, not lions. When the little boy went out in the meadow to play he discovered something extraordinary.

"A Lion in the Meadow" is a story written by a New Zealand author, Margaret Mahy, about what happened to the little boy that day.
