Layered Beans Vase
From: "Gift To Make For Your Favorite Grownup" by Kathy Ross
Materials:
Two colors of thin ribbon that look nice together
Dried yellow peas or unpopped popcorn
Dried green peas
Rice
Dried kidney beans
large baby food jar or other jar of similar size
artificial flowers
white glue scissors
1.
Fill the jar one quarter full with dried green peas. Gently shake
the jar to help them settle evenly in the jar. Next add a layer of
red beans to half fill the jar. Next add rice to the jar. Fill
the remainder of the jar with the yellow peas or popcorn.
2.
Plant the flowers by poking the stems carefully down into the layers of
beans, disturbing the layers as little as possible. If the stems
of the flowers are too long, trim them before you stick them in the jar.
3.
Squeeze white glue all over the top layer of beans around and in between
the flowers. Let the glue dry hard to hold the layers of beans in
the jar. Cut two pieces of ribbon and tie them together around the
rim of the jar in a pretty bow.
You can layer the inside of the jar with any combination of beans and
rice that you choose. You could also color some rice or sand with
a few drops of food coloring. Be sure to let colored rice or sand
dry overnight before you seal it in the jar. If you don't it might
mold. YUCK!
