Freddy, The Flying Fox by Mark S. Davies, illustrated by Georgiana Davies and Karen Linnenkohl |
| Once upon a time there lived a flying fox whose name
was Freddy. Freddy lived in a tree down by the rivers in
Indooroopilly. Freddy had one great love in live: Food. But Freddy had a problem - every night he overslept whilst all the other flying foxes were out looking for food. Every evening two boys called Tommy and Billy would walk past Freddy´s tree, see Freddy asleep and shout: Wake up Freddy, you´ve overslept again. One day Freddy slept in so late that by the time he set off to look for food there was no fruit left on the trees of Brisbane. |

Freddy did not know what to do, when he saw a little
girl sitting on her balcony eating grapes and cherries.
He flew down to her and said: Hello, my name is Freddy and I am very hungry, may I have some of your grapes and cherries? The little girl, whose name was Georgiana, answered: Of course you may, Freddy, eat as much as you like... |
| Whilst Freddy was eating happily, Georgianas mummy came out onto the balcony: And who is this? She asked and Georgie told her all about Freddy´s problem with oversleeping and that there was no fruit left on the trees of Brisbane. | ![]() |

Georgianas mummy went back into the kitchen and came
back with a big board of apricots, bananas, apples,
grapes and cherries. Freddy had the biggest meal he had ever eaten. |
| When he was finished he said: Thank you very
much for feeding me tonight, I shall try and wake up on
time tomorrow and then he flew back to his tree in Indooroopilly where he promptly fell asleep. |

The following evening Freddy was awoken again by
Tommy and Billy. Would you believe it, he had overslept
again! And by the time he had washed himself and brushed his teeth and got ready to fly off to look for food, there wasn´t any left. Freddy was very upset. |
| But then he remembered Georgiana, the little girl he had met the night before and headed straight to her house in Dixon Street. | ![]() |

There she was, sitting on the balcony having her
supper. But she was not eating fruit she was eating a
bowl of spagetti instead. Freddy landed on the balcony and asked: Where are your grapes and cherries and Georgie answered: You have eaten all the fruit last night and we did not go shopping today, so there is none left. |
| Freddy looked very sad. What were they going to do? Just then Georgiana´s daddy arrived home from work and Georgie had an idea: |

Daddy, please would you go to the shops at the end of the road and buy some fruit for my friend Freddy? He has overslept again and is so hungry. |
| Georgiana`s daddy was going to buy some beer anyway so he was happy to get some fruit for Freddy. | ![]() |

But he did not only buy some fruit for Freddy, he popped into the convenience store as well and bought a little present for him. |
| When Georgiana` s daddy rerturned home, Freddy had a big fruit supper and he was very happy. | ![]() |

Just as he was saying thank you and good-bye
Georgiana´s daddy said: wait Freddy, I have got a present for you, this may solve your problem. |
| Freddy unwrapped the little parcel and what did he find? | ![]() |
