Finals
Game One: The Feeling Out Process |
June 21, 2003 DOM-LAND, Middle-Earth—The Dom-Land Caribou jumped out to a 1-0 series lead in the Championship Finals with a 2-1 win against their arch-enemies the Ringwraiths. The Caribou didn't even to attempt to downplay the rivalry between the teams, who had some explosive meetings during the regular season. The 'Bou won the regular season series 3-1. "I guess I could say that no, they're just lonely two-legged creatures just like everyone else," said defence-elf Legolas, "but, to be honest, I hate those guys." "And there's no knowing how many legs they got under there," added Merry. Rumors about the Witchking's reinforced knees swirled around the Merry-Go-Round...Rink...Thing Where a Penguin Plays a Banjo. The word "mithril" was heard whispered from the tickets booth to the locker rooms. "I don't care if he's got a coney with big nasty teeth and a shovel under there," said a pugnacious Sam before the game. "If he hurts Mr. Frodo, I'm takin' his knees." Fortunately for all involed, the game proceeded without undue violence. Gwaihir was again called upon to provide security, this time to keep the playersand not the fans in line. Frodo opened the scoring with a power play goal midway through the first period. The 'Wraiths equalized with less than 10 seconds to go in the first. Gimli potted yet another shorthanded goal late in the second, which proved to be the winning goal. Gandalf made 28 saves in the win. The series continues next week. Notes:
Now that the 'Bou are in the finals, it's up to the fans to decide how
they should end the season. If you haven't seen Bubbles' hat yet, see
it here. Now, guess how much it cost Bubbles
to make that hat. If you guess correctly, the 'Bou will win the championship.
If you don't, well there's always next season (unless you're Patrick Roy.
Heh.) So choose. But choose wisely. UPDATE: This poll closes June 27. This Poll is Now Closed.

Notes IV:
If you sent me something, see it here. Playoff Primer 1) Each round is a seven-game series. Basically, two teams
play each other until one team wins four games. That team wins the series. 2) There are no ties. If a match is tied at the end of
three periods, the teams will play 20-minute overtimes until one of them
wins or they both drop dead. In the case of dropping dead, all members
of both teams have to be completely dead. The game will then be temporarily
postponed. 3) The teams who have qualified for this year's playoffs
are: Whoever wins the Caribou/Ranger series will go on to play
the winner of the Uruk-Hai/Ringwraith series for the Orlando's Bloomers
trophy. (Bubbles would like to remind everyone that the poll that chose
the name of the championship trophy was really weird.)
4) Although there are traditions of throwing things onto
the ice in the NHL during the playoffs, (i.e. the octopus in Detroit)
the MEHA has strictly forbidden the flinging of cephalopods. This measure
was taken to prevent the injury and/or death of anyone trying to capture
The Watcher in the Water.
