Class Specific Tips

    I would like to start off by making a politically correct statement: There is no "best" class.
    This page attempts to provide an overview of the various classes available - comparisons will be inevitable, but at the end of the day, I hope I will have presented enough information for you to make your own decision.
    P.S. This will be of most use to you SH single-classers wondering what to remort into - multi-remorts should have enough experience (and anyway, it's too late now :), and as for newbies, it'll be too confusing, so I recommend newbies just go by their role-playing gut instincts. (That's what I did, and I turned out okay :)
    As you should know by now, Aardwolf has 7 primary classes. For simplicity's sake, I think of them as the wham-bam Weapon-users(Warrior,Thief), and the casting Magic-users(Cleric,Mage,Psionic). The remaining 2 classes (Paladin,Ranger) are a combination of weapon & magic users.

    The other way I like to think of them, is as the Bashers (Offensive types) and the Healers (Defensive types). Once again, those strong offensively tend tend to be weak offensively, and vice versa, and there is that middle fence sitting group.

Creating

  • Most importantly is to consider your playing style
      - do you prefer the direct hack-and-slash method of a warrior?
      - or the intricacies of spellcasting cleric?
      - or even the complexities of a combination-class like a ranger?
  • The second factor would be ease of levelling - I would prefer not to name names here, but it has been *rumoured* that certain classes (eg Warrior) are easier to level than others (eg Mage). Of course there are numerous exceptions to this, and having said all this, it is amazingly well balanced. Every class has a good chance of SHing.
  • Thirdly is your plan for your character, which you may not even know now.
      - if you plan to stay single class, go for a combi-class (eg ranger)
      - conversely, multi-classers normally get a "pure" class (eg warrior) first.
      - a supernewbie (who shouldn't be reading this :) would compare low level skills.
      - and of course you boring questing types will just go for Hunt. :P

Remorting

  • After 201 levels (at least), you should have a good idea of what Aard is like, and the general differences between the various classes (if not the fine details).
  • Most people will remort into a class OPPOSITE to their current one (when looking at the scales above).
  • The reason for this is obvious - You minimize overlap, and get the best of both classes' wide range of skills, which will complement each other.
  • Once again, I hesitate to give specific recommendations, but my opinion is that you should get [Cle/Psi] + [Thief] + [War] as soon as possible. (Replace [War] with Pal/Ran if that is your first class)
  • This is what I would do, based on my first class. (no flames please :)
      -[Cle] -> War + Thi + Mage
      -[Psi] -> War + Thi + Mage
      -[Mag] -> Ran + Thi (Option 1 - gets healing spells)
      -[Mag] -> War + Cle + Thi (Option 2 - better offense)
      -[Pal] -> Thi + Mage
      -[Ran] -> Thi + Mage
      -[Thi] -> Cle/Psi + War + Mage
      -[War] -> Cle/Psi + Thi + Mage
