Player Killing(PKilling) on Aardwolf

Background

Aardwolf is a limited PK mud. PK is possibly only when all these 3 are fulfilled: (1)Both players are in a clan (2)The attacker is less than 10 levels above the defender (3)Both players are in a PK room Only condition (1) needs to be met if the defender has a "raider" or "wanted" flag. Alternatives (with no death penalty) exist in the form of (a)Warfare (b)Combat maze

PKilling Basics

PKilling is the act of killing other players, with full death penalties. PKilling is comparatively rare on Aard compared to other muds. It varies from simple one-on-one combat with no quaffing of potions, to full fledged "PK-fests", and also takes place in raids (not discussed here). It invariably leads to bad feeling and much spam over GClan if either player is immature, a sore loser, or a proud winner. Dying in a PK fight is just like any other death (i.e. exp loss, rot-death eq rots, etc). The clan morgue (if any) will work unless the dead guy has invaded a clan hall. The winner gets gloating rights and +1 mobkill.

Clans

There are 4 main categories of clans with respect to PKilling. (1)Some clans actively seek to PK. (eg Retribution) (2)Some clans will defend themselves, but not initiate PK (3)Some clans have no clear PK policy (eg DoH and Outcasts) (4)Some clans are forbidden from PK (Immly decree)(currently Bard & Crusaders)

Should I PK?

That is totally up to you and your clan. But most successful PKers are multi-classers, with some mud experience. PKilling is quite different from simply killing mobs, and needs getting used to. Remember: you are NEVER forced to PK. There is NEVER a time when you *have* to enter a PK room ('q fail' is always an option), and even if you DO get attacked, nobody says you have to stay to fight.

What factors should I consider in deciding to PK or not?

(1)Most importantly, does your clan support PK? I.e. if you PK, will you get outcasted? (2)What will happen if you die? Will you lose 2500 exp, and have all your eq rot on you? (3)Can you win? Don't forget, the attacker won't jump you if HE doesn't think he can win. (4)Are you willing to quaff potions? (5)Do you have backup? And if you call your clan down, will it turn into a PK fest? (5)Is it easy to flee? If you've been webbed in sttng and you haven't got dissolves, you either PK or get PKed. :P
