In this workshop, Terry uses lecture/discussion, encouragement, demonstration, and role playing to introduce you to the skills you need for doing play therapy and sand tray play therapy with clients–children, adolescents, and adults. Built into this workshop is the opportunity to practice with a child in the playroom and practice doing sand trays (with adults, teens, and/or children, depending on your chosen population). We will videotape some of our sessions, and Terry will provide supervision, encouraging you and offering constructive feedback. In this workshop, Terry’s emphasis is on play therapy techniques, an overview of a variety of theories as applied to play therapy, the history of play therapy, and application of play therapy with specific client populations. Class is limited to 10 participants. Required reading before class: Play Therapy: Basics and Beyond (Kottman) and Sandtray: A Practical Manual (Homeyer & Sweeney). 40 hours of CEUs
