The play Romeo and Juliet is about two feuding noble families, the Capulet’s and the Montague’s where the son of one family and the daughter in another are in love with other. Their families do not want them to be in love for it would unite the two bitter enemies.
The play starts out with a fight between the servants of the two families Benvolio tries to stop the fight, but he himself gets enraged when Tybalt, a Capulet, arrives at the scene. The citizens are pissed about all of the fighting so the prince orders death to anyone who tries to start a fight between the two families.
Later on Romeo, a Montague is talking to his cousin Benvolio telling him that he is in love with Rosaline, but she does not want to return the affection. Benvolio tells him to quit wasting his time with this woman and find another more beautiful one to love. While all this is taking place, Paris, a friend of the Prince, wants to marry Juliet. Juliet’s father, who is a Capulet, likes the idea of marriage but doesn’t want it to happen for two years. Paris agrees to this and starts to plan his masquerade party.
While Romeo and Benvolio are still talking, a servant to the Capulets handing out invitations to the party, so Benvolio decides that they should go. He says that this would allow Romeo to check out all of the other ladies before he chooses one. Romeo only agrees to go to the feast because he knows that Rosaline will be there.
At the Capulet’s place, Juliet talks to her mother about the about marrying Paris. She does not want to, but agrees to talk to him at the party to see if she could fall in love with him. As the party begins Romeo follows Benvolio and their friend Mercutio in to the house. While in side Romeo sees Juliet from a far and instantly falls in love with her. As Romeo watches Juliet, Tybalt notices Romeo and is outraged that a Montague would sneak into a Capulet party. He wants to fight him, but is held back.
Romeo then firsts talks to Juliet and they are both attracted to each other. They kiss, not even knowing each other. Romeo finds out form the nurse that Juliet is the daughter of Lord Capulet, the enemy to his family. When Juliet learns who Romeo is she grows very upset. When Benvolio and Mercutio leave, Romeo jumps over the wall to see Juliet and they express their vows of love.
Romeo sees the Friar who agrees to marry the two in secret as he sees their love as a way to end the feud between the two families. The next day Romeo and Juliet meet with the Friar and are married. The nurse, who knows the secret, gets a ladder so Romeo can climb up to Juliet’s window for their wedding night. The next day Tybalt tells Benvolio and Mercutio that he wants to challenge Romeo to a duel. Mercutio says that he will fight Tybalt himself. Tybalt kills Mercutio, and in a fit of rage, Romeo kills Tybalt.
That night Romeo climbs into Juliet’s window ant they express their love. When morning comes they bid farewell. Juliet’s father decides that she will have to marry Paris in only three days. The nurse tells Juliet to marry Paris for it is a better match anyway. Juliet ignores the advice and goes to the Friar who tells her that he wants to reunite her with Romeo. She must drink a potion that will make her appear to be dead and when she is laid to rest the Friar will revive her and she will be free to live with Romeo.
That night Juliet drinks the potion and the nurse finds her apparently dead, so the bury her in the family tomb. They notify Romeo that Juliet is waiting for him, but he never gets the message. The only message he gets I that Juliet is dead. Romeo decides to kill himself rather then live without her. He buys a bottle of poison and speeds to Verona to die in Juliet’s tomb. Paris is there so they fight and Romeo kills Paris. After wards Romeo drinks the poison and dies by her side.
Minutes later Juliet wakes up and sees Romeo dead then kisses him which does not kill her, so she buries a knife in her chest. Soon after the watch arrives and they decide to end he feud between the two families.
