<-- Back Items 18 - 23

Item 24. Slot Dimensions, s
Formula: Use: s = lfinal - tend
Notes: Rounded to the nearest three decimals.

Slot Tolerance, st
Formula: Use: st = 0.04 s
Notes: Usually, slot tolerance is about 4% of the slot width.

Item 24a. Available Slot Space, ss
Formula: Use: ss = s - st.

Item 24b. Slot Conductor Space, sc
Formula: Use: sc = ss - 2 dl
Notes: Where dl = Item 28a. Rounded to the nearest three decimals.

Item 24b. Slot Opening, wA
Formula: Use: wA = d / 10
Notes: Where d = slot depth, Item 28. Rounded to the nearest three decimals.

Item 25. Current Density, amp per square in, D
Formula: Use: Dtrial = (k / q ) + (v / 4 ),
where: k = 700,000 to 1,000,000, common value = 500,000.
Formula: Use: Dfinal = Ic / CSfinal
Limits: Dfinal should be within 1,500 to 3,300 A/sq.in.
Notes: Rounded to the nearest 100.

Item 26. Cross Section Area of Winding, CS
Formula: Use: CStrial = Ic / Dtrial
Formula: Use: CSfinal = AWGsq.in. / a
Notes: where AWGsq.in. = Area of the chosen AWG from Table 1 in square inches.
where a = Number of parallel paths.

Item 27. Dimensions of Wire, a × AWG
Number of Parallel Paths, a
Formula: Use: atrial = 1, 2, 3
Formula: Use: afinal = sc / fdcc
Notes: Where: sc = slot conductor space, Item 24b
fdcc = diameter of wire in dcc for the selected AWG No. from Table 1.
Cross Sectional Area of Conductor per Parallel Path, AWG
Formula: Use: AWGtrial = CStrial / a
Notes: For the final value, select the most suitable AWG No. from Table 1 on p. 431. The selected wire, AWGtable, should be LESS THAN the AWGtrial.

Item 28. Stator Slot Depth, d
Formula: Use: d = 2 dl + dc + dw + dt + da + dx
Limits: Where: d is usually between 1 to 4 inches.

Item 28a. Stator Slot Lining, dl
Formula: Use: dl = 27 + ( Vt / 30 ) mills.
Item 28b. Depth of Conductors, dc
Formula: Use: dc = CSfinal × fdcc
Item 28c. Depth of Wedge, dw
Formula: Use: dw = 25 + ( Vt / 45 ) + ( HP / 100 ) mills.
Notes: This value: dw is usually about 3% of dc. Should the above formula gives a smaller value, use 3% dc, instead.
Item 28d. Tooth Thickness, dt
Formula: Use: dt = approx. 2 dl.
Item 28e. Allowances for Spaces Between Wires, da
Formula: Use: da = approx. 58% fdcc.

Item 28f. Ratio of Slot depth and Slot Width, d/s
Limits: d/s = 3.5 to 4.5 inches.
Notes: If d/s is out of range, add an extra depth, dx, to make the depth at least equal to 1 inch, else change Slot per Pole per Phase: ns, or Stator Internal Diameter: D, or add a multiple of 1/8" to pole pitch, t.
