greek dance in messinia and the peloponnese
contd....
Sta Tria - the dance 'in three', this is likely a very ancient dance. Danced by both men and women to an even 2/4 or 4/4 rhythm, with hands in a 'W' hold (holding hands at shoulder height).
Tsakonikos - a well-known dance of the Peleponnese, it is usually performed by a line of dancers linked arm in arm, that moves first in a circle, but quickly twists and turns to snake around in an open space. There are several conflicting theories about the alleged ancient origins of the dance, one being that it was the dance that Theseus danced to navigate the labyrinth and another that it refers to the Pythian combat of Apollo and the snake. Today, it is often danced to the song "Sou Eipa Mana".
