Climbing at Donner Summit

LEFT: My friend Malcolm Wong (white shirt) leading Nova Express (5.9). RIGHT: Me, seconding. Of course, they would have to wait until I was dogging it to take the picture!

Donner Summit is located about 20-30 (?) miles west of Truckee, on old Donner Pass road. As is the rule in the Sierra, the rock is plutonic granite, the ol' extruded batholith that makes the Sierra so great for climbing. Nova Express is a nice 75+ foot single pitch. This was my first time removing placed pro, and it was pretty fun, although I began to appreciate how much harder a climb can become when the pro must be placed.
