Self-Analysis » Teamwork
From building upon my communications abilities, I have managed to shore up many of my weak points in working with teams. As such, I believe I have made much effort in becoming a better team player. While leadership requires more polished skills that I do not feel I have yet accomplished, the strides I have made towards it has been tremendous.
Strengths
Through various projects and activities, I have been able to round out my ability to work with others. By analyzing my results from the self-assessment “Are you a team player?”, I am able to note what I have been doing well, as well as a few items that I can improve upon. Whenever I work with others, whether through a small group project or leading an all staff meeting, I strive to allow everyone have equal input to whichever matter is at hand. While it is always nice to have the team’s agenda coincide with my own, I have also learned that a few compromises have to be made: in order to arrive on time to my staff meetings for my student association required me to leave home before dinner on Sunday evenings for the weekly commute to Irvine. Whenever I see a member of my team distraught over some matter, I would always put aside my own issues for a minute to listen to their problems and offer my advice, a solution, or reassurance.
Weaknesses
One of the hardest issues I have trouble dealing with is conflict. Often times I would find myself day dreaming about different situations where everything goes my way; this would always result in me running into problems. While I do not feel that day dreaming is a serious character flaw, I do understand the need to be able to deal with stressful situations with many different people. Expanding upon that scope, I am also slowly learning to how to detect the emotions of those around me and be more sensitive to my team’s wants and needs. By understanding my introvert trait, I have begun to develop personal strategies on how to deal with any issues that arise.
