How-to Flame Fade Paint JobHere are some shots of my Traxxas Nitro 4-Tec. The lexan shell is a Maclaren F-1 look alike. It was painted with Pactra paints. The window mask came with the body and a second mask was made with clear contact paper. The flames where made by folding the paper onto itself until I had 6 sheets layered on top of each other. I then made a couple of different flame marking with a pen and cut them out with a scissors. The front was masked of and the rear was painted with 2 coats of outlaw black(RC250). After the paint was dry the front mask was removed and the front was painted with Racing Read(RC254) the paint was concentrated on the front side as to get solid coverage up front. After the paint was dry I sprayed the transition area with Fluorescent Yellow(RC284) to create a highlight effect from the solid red to the flame tips and then a contrasting effect with the solid black. The entire front half was backed with Sprint White(RC251) to bring the yellow to life and to give the red a deep hue. The white also protects the colors from the cleaning solutions used to clean the body after a big race. Some people use silver to back the light colors. This might resist the cleaning solutions a little better. I guess time will tell. Lamborgini Diablo VT![]() Click to enlarge the image
