H. McCracken Deed Acct Settled |
Came into Court Mary McCracken Administratrix of Henry McCracken late of the County
of North'd yoeman deceased who died Intestate and Produced to the Court an acco't
of her administration duly passed by the Registire which after duly examining
it the Court found a balance in the hand of the Administratix of one hundred
and four Pounds, eight Shillings & eleven Pence lawful Money of Pennsylvania
to wan*** Paying the Debt & Interest due by Bond to Jonathan McClure amounting
to one hundred and sixty eight Pounds and nineteen Shillings like money afs'd.

Came into Court Mary McCracken Widow of Henry McCracken late of Northumberland Militia
deceased who was killed in Actual Service by the Indians then in open War
against this State & the United States & prayed relief under the Act of Assembly
in such cases made and provided. The said Mary produced to the Court a
certificate from the Commanding officer as follows viz "I do hereby Certify that Henry McCracken private of the eighth Company of the first Batalion of Northum'd County Malitia was killed by the Indians
in actual Service on the twenty fourth of September one thousand seven hundred
& eighty. Given under my Hand this nineteenth Day of June 1786. Signed
Wm Clark Cap't and the said Mary produced one other Certificate as follows viz "At the request of Mary McCracken Widow of Henry McCracken deceased we do hereby
Certify according to our Knowledge and Good information that the said Henry McCracken killed by the Indians in September of the year of our Lord 1780 being a private in
Captian William Clark's Company leaving his wife and five small children and
his Estate not ammounting to enough to satisfy his creditors, we therefore conceive
she is entitled to the benefit of the Act of Assembly provided for the relief
of Persons in her situtation" John Moon} overseers of the poor Henry Iddings } To the Justices of the Orphan Court of North'd Walter Clark } Freeholder White Deer Township June 15th 1786 Robert Fruit } And the Court being satisfied of her right to the benefit of the said Act Whereupon the Court did order that William Wilson Esq. pay unto her the sum of fifteen Shillings per month from the 24th Day of September 1780 until the Present Date being five years nine months & four Days amounting to fifty one Pounds & seventeen Shillings like money. Mary McCracken Pent. granted - 1786 |
The Court on further application allow Mary McCracken widow of Henry McCracken deceased
the further sum of fifteen Shillings per Mo from the twenty seventh day
of June 1786 (the time her last order ended) untill the twenty seventh day of Decem'r
last past being one year & six Months.

McCracken, Mary Pension granted - 1787 |
Upon the application of Mary McCracken Widow of Henry McCracken deceased who fell
by the Indians in the service of this State for a continuation of her Pension
agreeable to Law and it still appearing to the Court as well by the Certificates
of the overseer of the Poor of the Township where she resides as of two reputable
Freeholders thereof as also of other sufficient and unequivacal Testimony
that the slender Circumstances of the Family of the said Mary McCracken still calls
for the Assistance of the Public and that of herself she is unable to provide
for herself & Family a Comfortable Subsistance. The Court on due Consideration
adjudge her a pension of fifteen Shillings per month from the twenty
seventh Day of June (the time her last order ended) up to the twenty ninth Inst't Ecit Order due By the Court |
Mary McCracken Pension cont'd - 1788 |
Mary McCracken cometh here into Court and showeth to the Court by sufficient and
unequivocal Testimony that she still remains unmarried the Widow of Henry McCracken
who was killed by the Indians in the late with Great Britain to which they
were Auxilleries, whilst the said Henry was in the Actual Service of this & the
United States, as the said Mary at a former Day hath shown to this Court - and
that she is still necessitous - and all and singular the Premise aforesaid being
taken into Consideration by the Court. The Court do order and grant unto
the said Mary McCracken the sum of fifteen Shillings Monthly and every Month
from the twenty nineth Day of August (being the time her last order ended) untill
further order from this Court agreeable to the Act of Assembly in such Case
made and provided. By the Court |
The following three items were found in the bottom of a box written on small scraps
of paper that relate to the above Court records. |
We do hereby Certify that Mary McCracken is the Widow of Henry McCracken Deceased
and that the said Henry McCracken's Estate is not having sufficent to Discharge
the the Debts. We the Subscribers think that the Widow is entitled to the benefit
of an act provided for the relief of Widows and Children in such Cases.

The Court on further application of Mary McCracken Widow of Henry McCracken dec'd
& on her producing a certificate from the overseer of the Poor and two freeholders
date Aug. 13 1788 do allow her the further sum of fifteen Shillings per mo
to commence from the twenty nineth day of June 1786 ( the time her last order
ended) up to the 29 ins't inclusive being ________________

I John Steel one of the overseeres of the poor of White Deer Township Northumberlan
County and we the subscribers Do Certify that Mary McCracken late wife of Henry
McCracken who was killed by the Indians Remains yet a Widow with one Child
ten years of age Last March and that there is a necessity of Granting Her some

NOTE: From the above document it would appear that Mary McCracken was 3 months pregnant
when Henry was killed. |
