Tom Clancy
One day I picked up Patriot Games. That was one of the better choices
I could have made, since it's the first book in the series, chronolocally. It's more
of a prequel to The Hunt for Red October, the first book he wrote about Jack
Ryan. Hunt is my favorite book in this series. I also really liked Without
Remorse. This one is about John Clark, one of the best special agents for the CIA,
and tells of problems he had before getting to that point. In general, the whole
series is about the rise and fall of a minor player in the politics of the world. He
goes from an ex-Marine and history professor at Anapolis to the Presdient of the United
States.
David Eddings
One of the many authors I read because they had interesting covers, and I was bored at the
library. He has written four series, set in two different worlds, though I'm not
sure what the worlds are called. The Belgariad and The Mallorean are
both set in one world, where the 7 gods rule. The two books I like the most from
this world are Belgarath and Polgara. These are the life stories of two
major characters in both series. His other two series, The Elenium and The
Tamuli are set in his other world, where every man has a set destiny, except one...

I had just finished my book at work, and now needed another one to pass the
time. So I wandered over to the bookstore, and looked at the covers of books. I found The
King's Dragon and thought it looked interesting. And that got me started on this
series. I'm not sure how long the series is, but there are a total of three books so
far....and it doesn't show signs of stopping yet.
Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman is a god! Admittedly, the only thing I've read of his is the Sandman
series. I no longer have to borrow this from my ex-roommate, Mimi, which is good,
since she no longer lends them out. Sandman is a "graphic novel,"
or in other words, a comic book. Not something I would normally read, but I read the
first one, and it was not what I expected in any way. It was really really good.
Disturbing and dark, but an excellent read. The series features mostly Dream,
one of the Endless. The Endless are the first...the first ones created at the
beginning of time and the last ones to leave at the end of it. One of my favorite
characters is Delirium, one
of Dream's sisters. Delirium used to be Delight, but at one point was changed,
though no one knows why. The series has ended, though a companion "novel,"
The Dream Hunters, has recently come out, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Sandman.
Gaiman has also co-written a book with Terry Pratchett titled Good Omens,
and has published several anthologies of his short stories. If you ever have the
chance to hear him read one of his stories, do it. It's absolutely worth it. I
heard him at MIT and it was absolutely fabulous!!!
