Vows and Honor These take place for the most part in Rethwellan, a neighbor of Valdemar. |
The Oathbound. Tarma shena Tale'sedrin was a Sword Sworn fighter, who took the vow when brigands slaughtered her entire clan. Lady Kethryveris was a White Winds sorceress, who was born to a noble house and ran away after her marriage at 13 to a slimy merchant. What do they have in common? Nothing except friendship, love, and their Goddess-blessed sworn oath.
Oathbreakers. Tarma and Kethry, having made their name as a duet (well, trio if you include Tarma's kyree Warrl), now have joined the Sunhawks, a mercenary company led by a "former" Princess of Rethwellan, Idra. Idra is called off to make a choice between her two brothers for the crown of Rethwellan. When she doesn't write for several weeks, Tarma and Kethry are dispatched to the capital to see what they can find. What they find is a desperate situation.
Oathblood. Tarma and Kethry have finally gotten their school, due to a little help from King Stefanson. This book is a collection of short stories including the beginning: how Tarma and Kethry first became a team.

The Heralds of Valdemar |
Arrows of the Queen. Talia is a Holderkin girl and completely out of place there. Not only does she know how to read, she does so for pleasure. And she can not bow to the will of her elders. She wants more than anything to be a Herald, one of the keepers of the Kingdom, so when a Companion appears, she leaves. Court politics are very different than the farming policies of her home, and she must civilize the Brat, Princess Elspeth. Can she survive?
Arrow's Flight. Talia has gotten her Whites, and is a full-fledged Herald. Now comes the most difficult part. She must leave the capital and ride out on her Internship with her partner, Kris. It is a year and a half filled with danger, but she has to conquer her own mind first.
Arrow's Fall. Talia and Kris return to Court after Talia's Internship. The Court is just as full of intrigue, and to make matters worse, Talia is in love with Dirk, Kris' partner. When the friendship between the three of them falls apart, the Queen sends Talia and Kris to Hardorn as an envoy. Ancar is a prospective bridegroom for Elspeth, and the Queen wishes to find out more about him. What they discover is more than they had bargained for.
