Genocide Research Project
Senior 4 English - Comprehensive Focus

Genocide is a worldwide issue that is not confined to the Holocaust.  Several acts of genocide have occurred in history, some very recently.

In your group, you are to research an occurrence of genocide somewhere in the world.  Using the research that you come up with, your group will be the experts on that information and will teach the rest of the class about your example of genocide.

The links on this page are ones that I have found that will be useful to you in your research.  If you are interested  in teaching about an example of genocide that is not on this list, please talk to me about it first.

Once your group has decided which genocide event you would like to research and teach you must tell me.  Only two groups can cover each example so please decide quickly.

In your lesson you must include:

1. A geographic location of where your example of genocide took place.
(This will most likely be in the form of a map.)

2.  A description of what occurred:
- who were the victims?
-who was responsible for the genocide?
-statistical information (how many killed? when? where?)

3.  Other information that you feel is important to include.

4.  At least one "extra" - personal stories, photographs, articles, etc.

Remember that the information you find will be presented to the class in the form of a lesson.  You will need to share your information in a way that will be interesting and valuable to the rest of the class.  You may want to make a handout of information or include overheads as a part of your lesson, or create a PowerPoint presentation.  I will do my best to make whatever supplies you need available to you.

Your group is also required to hand in a outline of the research you conducted and the information you are presenting in the lesson.  This is not in the form of a formal essay, but must include documentation of where your information was found to avoid plagiarism.  There are links below to help you document your sources.
