Obesity

Today the Obesity is the big health problem for humankind all around the world. In American people it's percentages are % 19 for women , % 24 for men; in European peoples, obesity percentages are %15 in women, %20 in men. These data for Turkish people are like %15-18 and % 25 . So this means every one person is obese in four person. Recent percentage of obesity is increasing year by year.

Ten years ago it wasn't a problem for public health. But while eating and life behaviors of people tend to weightgain it becomes bigger. Of course the lifestyle is not the unique reason for obesity, the hereditary and some diseases (diabetes and endocrinologic disorders) leads obesity, but it is the big and essential reason.

Why diet?

In medical aspect, obesity is a morbid disease leading hypertension, cardiac vascular disease, stroke, diabetes, inspiratory problems, osteoarthrose and some type of cancers. It must treate. In treating obesity, there are four ways. Firsth is diet and behavioral therapy. Second, drug therapy. Third is surgical therapy and the Last is psichotherapy.Diet, is the base of the all therapies; no therapy is effective without it.
In overweight-obesity , person gets more energy with foods that he couldn't expend them in daily activities. And his body accumulate the waste energy as fat. So primarly cause of obesity is excess food intake and diminished activity or expending energy. Diets mean diminishing of energy for body.

The foods we ate, may clasificate in carbonhydrates, proteins, fats and fibers.As known some is rich for fat,carbonhydrate or protein and some contains more energy (calories).The principles of diet is gets satiety and energy but no more. Vitamins (which are profound in vegetables and fruits) must consider in the diet too.

Why Self-diet

There are a lot of diets published. All of them are good and preferable but people couldn't obey them, why they are static and commander.

I thought that why men couldn't prepare own diet. If person learned the principles of diet, he could his daily diet. The self-diet borned from this idea.

The Self-diet's this version is visual form of the recent versions and useful for nonmedical persons.

The Self-diet

1- Gets your height and weight and calculate your BMI index

2- Keeps BMI value ideally at 22 and estimates your ideal weight

3- You may select your weight-decreasing rate and determine your diary calorie needing.

4- Teaches you that which amount of basic nutriments(carbonhydrates. proteins and fats)must taken into your diets.(In Help-Ideal Diet and nutrimeter on screen)

5- You may calculate howmany calories had you gotten today's meals. If you make a shedule with foods you had ate.And you substitude the foods on Self-diet, you may learn the calories you get.

6- Self-diet is useful for dietitians and physicians also , they may prepare diets for their patients. And they could append new foods into program via properly methods.

Technical Information

The Self-diet is prepared with Visual Basic Programming Language.

It uses primarily "gida" and some files loaded system files. Don't remove these files.

Recent version of Self-Diet  was in Turkish. Now, all users will see the foods' names, amounts and listing- menus in Turkish and English.

You may use Self-Diet with both language. It's freeware.

Who is author?

Dr Erkan Uzunyol, who is Internal Medicine Specialist, works at SSK Mugla Hospital in Turkey.

He borned at 1957 Izmir .He got diploms from Aegean University and 9 Eylul University Medicine Faculty in Izmir-Turkey.

He is married with a teacher Mrs Emel Uzunyol and they have two children.

Dr. Uzunyol is also an amateur programmer. Self-diet , is one of his programs.
