Chat With Kristen (5/12/2003)

On ER, has Carter and Abby's relationship come to the end of the road?

I only know what my good friend, Noah Wyle, (sure, we only talked for 20 minutes but it was quality time, thank you very much) told me: "It's been pretty tempestuous of late, and I'm sure these two characters still have a couple more rounds to go. We sort of maxed out on where they're at right now, and whatever's coming in the future will have to come after a hiatus where they can go off and figure out who they are as individuals, before they can actually make it as a couple." And, don't forget, Carter is getting a new love interest. A blonde, although I tried to persuade him it should be a brunette couch potato (yes, yes, shameless act of desperation). You can see meself making an ass of meself in our first ER finale segment, this Tuesday, on E! News Live at 7 p.m. It should be highly entertaining and even more humiliating. Wheee!
What is the deal with Luka? Does he die in the Congo?
Yesno. We're going to get quite the scare. Goran wasn't able to talk about the cliffhanger, obviously. But I did ask him what I wanted to know, if we'll ever get loveable Luka back. Read into his answer what you will: "Uh, yeah, but that's part of what I can't talk too much about. We're shooting two episodes here. One will run at the end of the season and the second will be next season. I can't talk a lot about that, but it's going to be really awesome." You can see it for yourself in our Thursday ER segment on E! News Live at 7 p.m. (There are two pieces--one Tuesday and one Thursday.)

Okay, Ms. "I Get to Go to Hawaii with the Hot Goran and Noah," what's the ER dish?

The episode is intense. I mean, "put the kiddies to bed and don't expect to sleep" intense. While I was there, they were shooting a harrowing scene, in which a little girl has lost the bottom portion of her leg in the Congolese conflict, and they must amputate. Meanwhile, they are in the middle of a battlefield: explosions, gunfire, chaos. Expect this finale to look like ER: The Movie. And, more importantly, Noah and Goran were dripping with sweat in paper-thin jungle garb. And, they could not have been nicer. Honestly--not a diva in the bunch.
Speaking of ER, how does the future look for Abby and Carter? Please tell me she doesn't end up back with Luka. (Even though I know he's your future husband...)
Noah hinted that Carter finally agrees to go to the Congo with Luka, because his relationship is such that he no longer has a reason to stay. And, yes, thank you for acknowledging that Abby could not end up with Luka, as he's already spoken for.
Any- and everything about your ER/Hawaii trip! Please!
More details in this week's column! But, for now, I can also tell you that Hawaii is crawling with celebs these days...I also spotted Sean Astin, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz--Drew and Sean are there shooting a new movie with Adam Sandler.

Kristin...need ER dish--stat!
I'll have more details after this week--should I happen to return from my romantic getaway in Hawaii with Noah Wyle and Goran Visnjic. (Not going to let a little thing like a restraining order stop me, no sirree.) For now, I can tell you Abby is not going to make the best impression with Carter this week at Gamma's funeral. And word is that Carter will be getting a new lovah (or, at the very least, potential lovah) next season.
Is there any chance for some Elizabeth and Romano lovin' on ER? Please?
I asked Jack Orman exactly that (actually, I just said any lovin', please, stat!), and this is what he said: "We've discussed it. We haven't done it yet, but I wouldn't rule it out. Nothing immediate. That's the great thing about the conflict characters with a certain amount of edge. You start liking them, because you get to know them, and you ignore some of their bad behavior. And we will continue to explore that.
Is Mekhi Pfeifer staying on ER?
Check out this week's column: Exec Producer Jack Orman says yes.

Any news about ER?

Noah Wyle and Goran Visnjic are shooting the two-part finale. It's the storyline I told you about long ago, in which they go on a humanitarian trip to Africa. (Though the show is being shot in Hawaii--those ER producers know how to work it.) Get this: I should (fingers crossed) be able to tell you firsthand about the finale, because it looks like I'm going to Hawaii to interview the cast for E! News Live. La la la la la. Goran. Noah. Hawaii. Clearly, my pact with the devil has finally paid off.
If they send you to Hawaii to interview the cast of ER, when would that be?
Next week. But before you let the obvious, harrowing thought cross your mind, fear not: I wouldn't need to miss a chat.
Wut about ER?
I tell you wuts the wut: Nothing official yet, but it sounds to this gossip-sniffin' schnozz like Mekhi Phifer is leaving. The second-to-last episode is being written as his last appearance. In it, Carter and Pratt split the limelight: Carter pulls a day shift, and Pratt does the night shift, so we see their two perspectives. Also, Romano goes through more surgery. And by the way, are you jealous my nose can hear?

Okay, is the death on ER none other than Pratt?! Say it isn't so!
No, it is not Pratt. It's a recurring character--not a regular. Meaning that this person is not on a full-time contract. It's someone very close to Carter, whose death affects his relationship with Abby.
Can we get another clue on the ER death?
Really? I mean, reeeally? I figured you'd know. Okay, this should pretty much spell it out for you: At the funeral, we meet some more of Carter's relatives, including an aunt.
I think it's going to be Abby's mom on ER. No more Sally Field. Am I right?
Nope. But many of you are guessing correctly!

Season 10 Premiere Spoilers??

EPISODE 10.1 SEASON PREMIERE "THE LOST"
Carter heads back to Africa upon receiving word that Luka has been "murdered"
there. With Gillian (the Canadian nurse from the season finale), he
desperately seeks to find Luka's body to bring back home.

Meanwhile, Luka is alive (barely), watching those with him get shot one by one.
They have spared him because they believed he was a priest as he was chanting
and feverishly praying, delusional from the malaria. A crucifix that was given
to him earlier, hung from his neck. A boy who witnessed Luka's delirious
praying, later leads Carter to him.

I'm sure I don't wanna know the answer to this, but are Abby & Carter over with?

Can't answer that, sorry. But I can tell you: Someone dies. Okay, that happens almost every week, so let me rephrase: A character we already know and love dies. And Carter takes it pretty hard.
Is Deb the one who dies on ER?
No. It's not a series regular

Any scoop on ER?
First off, just have to say I loved the latest ep. Anyone else? Anyone? Anyone? Like I talked about before, Susan goes to Vegas and gets hitched to a flight nurse in this week's ep. Also--surprise, surprise--Romano isn't winning any Most Popular prizes in the ER. He's made ER chief, but his 'tude may just get him in some hot water.
Awhile back, I thought you mentioned Lewis and Luka were gonna hook up. Is it still gonna happen?
Not for the time being. They had flirted with that idea and then decided to marry her off to the flight nurse while Luka continues his hooker binge. But I hear it's on the back burner--not out the window.

>> We meet a new slew of med students.
>> Carter finally snaps and throws Romano (almost literally) out of a trauma room.
>> Kerry and Abby treat a baby who is being poisoned by his mother.

all senses and talks her into assisting him in a procedure on a patient while
she's there. Isn't that totally not allowed?

ER: "Abby says yes to Carter's marriage proposal." True! And more coming up on that...

Anything on ER?
One of the main characters is getting married...and it's not who you'd expect.
Not Abby and Carter? The wedding?

Nope. At least, they won't be first. One of the other docs flies off to an impromptu Vegas wedding, and it makes Abby a little peeved that Carter still hasn't stepped up to the altar.
Is it Susan?
Yes. She runs off to Vegas to marry a flight nurse, whom she's just met on a blind date. As I mentioned, this does not sit we
ll with Abby, and she shares her feelings with Carter, saying that they should do the same.

Please tell me Xander doesn't lose his job! It might start another downward spiral!

Done and done! That was the fake spoiler. The real one was the one from ER. In episode 13, Carter is tricked out of a large sum of money in a charity scam run by man and woman pretending to run a free clinic for the homeless. It comes as quite a shock to him, poor pookie! Come sit on momma's lap, and you'll feel better...(Sorry, was that out loud?)
Are we going to have all those boring scenes with Carter's family again?
Yep.
I read in your column that Luka is not going to visit Erin in the hospital. What gives?
That is the question! (Thought that tirade in my column would make me feel better...no such luck.) In episode 13, Erin has been hospitalized for three weeks, but Luka has yet to visit her. This causes tension not only between the two of them but between Luka and another doctor whom Erin becomes close with. Guesses?
Is it Gallant?
Oops! Sorry, I forgot to answer this one. Yes, the doctor who becomes close with Erin is Gallant. And it's going to get very tense between Gallant and Luka.

What happens next on ER?

There's a very cool episode coming up--number 15, I believe--in which Carter travels to "Africa" to do a stint with an international aide organization. They're shooting the episode in Hawaii.
Do we see Luka's redemption this season on ER? What about the Pratt-Chen romance that almost was...but really wasn't?
Actually, Pratt exits for a bit. In episode 13, his brother Leon is involved in a shooting, and Pratt hustles him out of town in order to protect him.
