Description:  CARTER PLAYS PEACEMAKER AND IGNORES HIS OWN GRIEF -- Despite receiving some tragic family news, Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) tries to prevent a grieving gang member (guest star Cory Hardrict) from seeking vengeance while Dr. Kovac (Goran Visnjic) bends the rules to get a dying Croatian boy to Chicago in a race to save his life. Meanwhile, Carter's sad family gathering is interrupted by Abby's (Maura Tierney) mentally troubled brother Eric (guest star Thomas Everett Scott) who leaves his voluntary care facility to cause trouble. Elsewhere, Dr. Lewis (Sherry Stringfield) just can't seem to break off her relationship to her former "husband" (guest star Donal Logue), a minor league baseball player (guest star Ricky Luna) with a serious heart ailment is treated on the eve of his pitching debut with the Cubs and a tormented Dr. Romano (Paul McCrane) makes a dramatic decision about his mangled arm.
