When we woke up from our post-travel sleepy daze the morning after arriving in Sheffield, we took a look around our flat and realized it was actually fairly nice and spacious. We have enormously high ceilings and taking a look at the walls, Phil mused "What's the point of having such nice big walls if you can't cover them with books?" Since our flat has only a very small shelf in it and we could only bring one good-sized bookshelf from Montreal, we decided to embark on...
The Great Library Project
Thus we began with building wooden shelves onto one of the larger walls...
After that was done we unpacked and sorted ALL of our books. Of all the unpacking, this probably felt the most like christmas morning, some of these books had been in boxes for the past two apartments we've lived in, and going through titles we hadn't seen in a year or so was great fun. J
After sorting the books, we had a good laugh at how utterly ridiculous we are for having so many books and even more so for carting them halfway around the world. Our laughter turned somewhat to shock as, while putting the books away on the shelves, we realized that even though we had built 7 shelves, each 12 feet long, we still had way more books than we had shelves... So naturally, continuing in the same crazy vein that got us this far, we decided to build more shelves!
After the second wall full of shelves went up, we still had some books lying on the floor, but by now we were sick of building shelves and decided to just find somewhere else to stash the few remaining books. Here are some pictures of the finished project...
