Gestational Trophoblastic disease can occur when a sperm fertilises an egg there the nucleus is absent and the chromosomes from the sperm multiply resulting in only paternal genetic material being present. It may also occur when the egg is fertilised by two sperm. This faulty fertilisation leads to an abnormal placenta which in turn causes abnormal fetal

This occurs when the Trophoblastic cells grow into the uterus. It is considered to be a cancerous condition.

  • It is a Cancerous tumor that develops in the placenta.

  • It is the rarest form of GTD

  • It may occur months to years after a pregnancy.


  • This cancer can spread to the lungs,pelvis,liver and in very rare cases to the brain
