GREAT BENEFITS
There are many benefits for staying at home with your child. I have seen
it in my life and those around me. I will never forget the
yearly visit to the Doctor when I was told (rather than asked) that my
daughter did not go to daycare. I was surprised to even hear that from
our pediatrician! She knew just by looking at her thin file kept at the doctor's
office that my daughter experienced very little urgent doctor visits. I believe
we requested urgent care once or twice that year and it was for fevers due to
growing teeth! Other kids repeatedly went to see the doctor for colds and
recurrent ear infections, as well as related-fevers. By the way, did you
know ear-infections can lead to deafness? That is how one lady's child
lost most of her hearing at the young age of 18 months! I couldn't believe when
she told us that! As stated in World Health
Org., Chronic middle ear infection is the main cause
of mild to moderate hearing impairment in children. So,
here is one very important benefit, your child will suffer less illness and
infections when staying home with you. Hearing our Pediatrician say we were one
of the few patients with the shortest incident records on file was a huge sign
that we were doing the best thing for us: Staying home with our child.

excerpt
Linda Hirshman is a lawyer, philosophy professor, and
author. She didn't believe it, until she started researching the high-powered
couples who announced their weddings in The New York Times in 1996.
"The first man I called answered the phone, and I told him what I was
doing, and I said, 'Where's your wife?' And he said 'She's at home in Brooklyn
taking care of our daughter.' And it turns out, so are all but 15 percent of the
women I interviewed," says Hirshman. "Eighty-five percent of the women
in my sample are staying home either full-time or part-time."
