Championship Game Attracts Record TV Audience

BRISTOL, CT -- The 2002 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship game attracted an average audience of 3,487,262 households, making it ESPN’s most-viewed college basketball game (men’s or women’s) ever.

ESPN viewers watched Connecticut defeat Oklahoma, thereby earning its third national championship and capping the second perfect season in school history.

In 1990, 3,440,096 households tuned into the Princeton-Arkansas game in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on Mar. 15, for the previous ESPN collegiate basketball record.
