(I) GOD: We believe that God is one and has no equal. He is the Creator of the Universe. We believe God is Omnipotent, Omniscience and Omnipresent Spirit, who is the beginning and the end of all things and beings. We believe that this God is a Loving Father and has manifested His truth. Holiness, goodness, power and glory in the Son by the Holy Spirit, compound in unity as the Blessed Holy Trinity to whom be Honour, Praise and Glory forever ever and ever. We believe God is Uniform having no contrary. God is separate, having no equal? God is everlasting. God is ever existing without term termination. God is ever qualified with the attributes of Supreme greatness for He comprises the whole Heavens and the Earth. God is the Evidence and the Hidden. God is not a formed body nor a measurable substance neither does He resemble bodies either in their being measurable or divisible. God is not a substance. He is not accidental form nor does accidental exist in Him.
(II) GOD THE FATHER: WE believe in the Supremacy and the sovereignty of God the Father who by His Word created Heaven and Earth the Sea and all that dwell therein. We believe that God has granted unto man a free will but the human m mind is much too narrow in its scope to comprehend the greatness of God. We believe that God has a purpose for creating everything. He has created 2nd that His process of creation still continue under His direction. We believe that: one of the characteristics of God. the Father is to be merciful and forgiving: We believe as a matter of fact that God the Father is a Supreme Being of highly personal and moral nature in this aspect hence He is addressed as father. God or Almighty God, the Giver of all good things the clarified One and the Omnipotent
(III) THE SON: We
believe Jesus as the Begotten Son of God and as the; True Word of God the
father. We believe Jesus was with God in the beginning and that without
Him was nothing created (John 1). We believe He (Jesus) was born of Virgin
Mary, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe He lived a sinless
life and yet He was crucified for us as part of Divine plan for the redemption
of mankind. We believe that Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in
Jesus. “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30) The Divine birth of Jesus
and the power to give and forgive sin made us believe that Jesus and God
are one. WE believe He rose from the dead on the third day of His crucifixion
and thereafter ascended into Heaven after He has manifested Himself to
His disciples. We believe that Jesus will come back again in full glory
and majesty to judge the
living and the dead.
“Verily, verily,
I say unto you,
He that believeth
on me the works
that I do
shall he do also and
greater works
than these shall he
do: because
1 90 unto my Father.”
-John14:12
We believe the Lord’s promise
can never fail, it is man who has failed by professing the Holy Spirit
by denying its powers: thereby having believe without faith, a believe
that is nearly synonymous with mere superstitious. Why d id Our Lord Jesus
Chris: say. “And I will pray to the Father and He shall give you another
comforter, that He may guide with you for ever Even the spirit of truth
whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not neither knoweth
him: but ye know him for he dwelleth with you and shall be in you.’ Therefore,
we believe in the Holy Spirit as it was received by the earliest Apostles
on the day of Pentecost. We believe in this tripod summarise into the Apostle’s
Creed and Nicene’s Creed.
(V) THE HOLY BIBLE: We believe that the words of the Holy Bible were inspired and that men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. We therefore, accept the Scriptures as the authoritative word of God. We believe that the Old Covenant contained in the Old Testament was preparatory to the New and that its institutions were temporary in character. We believe that the New Testament, which was manifested through the Lord Jesus Christ, constitutes the permanent fulfilment of the Old. We believe that the Central Theme of all messages in the Bible is the Salvation of mankind and all messages in the Bible therefore point to the Lord Jesus Christ who brought salvation to mankind. It is Him that the Scriptures of the Old Testament bear witness and He is the One that the scriptures of the New Testament proclaim.
(VI) THE THREE CREEDS: We believe in the truths as in the three Creeds: Nicene Creed. Athanasius’s Creed and that commonly called the Apostle’s Creed for their foundation is in the Holy Scriptures.
(VII) GOD’S CREATION AND PROVIDENCE: We believe that in the beginning God created all things through His Word and that Jesus Christ is the Word. We believe that in the creation of man God gave man a free will, a moral character, a superior intellect and a spiritual nature, which distinguish man from lower animals and stamped man with the image of God. We believe that God gave man dominion over the earth and is concerned with the lives of his children and He is working for their eternal good. We believe that God has given manpower of self-determination and holds him responsible for his moral choice.
(VIII) MAN AND HIS SIN:
We believe that God created man sinless and holy, but that man failed when
subjected to a moral test which should have brought him to full spiritual
maturity. Our sins make us to fall short of the Glory of God and the penalty
of death was imposed on the human race. We believe that God does not tempt
any man.
“Let no man
say when he is tempted, I am
tempted of
God: for God cannot be tempted
with evil
neither tempted He any man.- (James 1:13)
Temptations are trials which
when successfully endured give the crown of live which the Lord promised
to them that love Him. The most grievous sin is blasphemy against the Holy
Spirit ”Wherefore I say unto you all manner of sins and blasphemy shall
be forgiven unto man the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be
forgiven unto man.” (Matthew 12:31) Compatible with this forgivable sin
is the stubborn refusal to acknowledge Jesus Christ who was conceived of
the Holy Ghost as Saviour and the Lord. We believe that the children are
born with a nature which will manifest itself as sinful as they mature
but that when they come to know themselves as responsible to God. they
must repent and believe in Christ in order to be saved. We believe that
Jesus Christ died for that and us through this sacrifice those who have
faith in Him will be saved.
(IX) SALVATION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH: We believe that men are saved not by character, law good works or ceremonies but by the Grace of God. The merits of the death and resurrection of Christ are adequate for the salvation of all men are offered to all and are intended for all who believe in Him, Salvation is appropriated by faith in Christ. From all eternity. God knew who would be the believers in Christ and person's foreknowledge believers are electing according to the foreknowledge of God. Saving faith involves the giving of one self to Christ a full surrender of the will, a confident trust in Him, a joyful obedience to His Word as a faithful disciple and an attitude of love to all men. It is the privilege of every believer to have the assurance of. The God who save also able; to keep each believer lives he stand in need of forgiveness cleaning and grace Christ
(X) THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE CHRISTIAN LIFE: We believe that Christ as Lord and Saviour does His work through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin. Through the Holy Spirit those who believe are born again. The Supreme ministry of the spirit is to lead men to Christ and His Salvation. As Christians yield to Christ and obey His Word, the Holy Spirit transforms them into the spiritual image of Jesus Christ and enables perseverance in faith and holiness. HE empowers them as effective witnesses to Christ and His salvation fills their hearts with love for all men and moves them to practice Christian discipleship. The Holy Spirit bestows upon each believer such gifts as He wills for the building up of the body of Christ the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit is God’s seal of ownership of the Christian believer.
(XI) CHURCH OF CHRIST: We believe that God ‘s redemptive work has led to the establishment of the Christian Church. Christ established His Church when He poured out His spirit on the day of Pentecost. In preparation for this Church, He entered into covenant relationships with Abraham and his seed. Today, the spiritual “Seed of Abraham” are those who have faith Christ and the people of God. The body of Christ composed of believers from all races and nations. the Church is the fellowship of those who a re in the Kingdom of Christ, the assembly of those who believe in Him, the brotherhood of the Saints. The Church is corporately the dwelling place of God in the Spirit His Holy Temple. II is the visible body of those who a Christian disciples. Membership of the Church is dependent upon a voluntary response to God’s Offer of salvation in Christ. It is in the congregation that the work of teaching witnessing and disciplining is carried on. It is the function of the Church to demonstrate to the world the will of God to proclaim to all men the saving power and intention of God in Christ, to make disciples of all the nations. To lead all men to the obedience of faith, to meet for instruction and for worship. The Church a brotherhood under; the Lordship of Jesus Christ
(XII) DISCIPLINE: We believe that the Lord Jesus has given authority to His Church to exercise discipline. The purpose is to lead each member to full stature in Christ. to restore to full fellowship the members who fall away from discipleship to promote the purity of the Church, to warn the weak and immature of the serious character of the good name and witness of the Church before the world. As a result the Church employs public teaching. private counselling, intercessory prayer, earnest warning and rebuke and sympathetic encouragement. The standard in the church discipline is the word of God as interpreted by the brotherhood.
(XIII) CEREMONIES AND PRACTICES: The Lord and His disciples instituted Ordinances for the Church: to observe permanently as symbols of Christian truth. The Apostolic Church literally observed them. Among these are baptism with water the communion of the Lord’s Supper, the washing of the Saints’ feet, the Holy Kiss, the laying on of hands in ordination the veiling of Christian women, the anointing of the sick with oil, and the institution of Christian marriage. The Saints observe the first day of each week in memory of the Lords resurrection
(XIV) THE CHURCH AND HEALING: We believe that the Church should exercise a ministry of prayer for those who are in need, Prayer for the sick is by means of anointing them with oil by the elders of the church. When healing does not occur we believe that God’s grace is sufficient and that His will has been done as may be most expedient for us.
(XV) THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH TO SOCIETY: We believe that Christ has commissioned the church to go into the entire world and make disciples of all the nations. Baptising them and teaching them to observe His commandments. We believe that Jesus has entrusted the stewardship of the gospel and the promised power of the Holy Spirit for the work of evangelism. The church should witness against racial discrimination, economic injustice and all forms of human slavery and human degradation.
(XVI) THE MINISTER OF THE CHURCH: We believe that it is the intention of Christ that there should be Shepherds in His congregations to feed the flocks. to serve as leaders to expound the Word of God, to administer the ordinances, to exercise in co-operation with the congregation a scriptural Church discipline and in general to function as servants of the Church Ordination by means of anointing with oil or laying of hands assigning responsibility and of God importing porting strength for the assignment. In addition to the primary office of Apostle in New Testament Church there should be such spiritual gifts as distinguished Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers. Upon the Conference Title holders lay the responsibility for the leadership and Pastoral care of the congregation.
(XVII) CHRISTIAN BAPTISM: We believe in obeying the instruction of the Lord Jesus to baptise believers with water in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. One must repent to qualify for baptism, turn to Christ in sincere faith and accept Him as Lord. For this reason we believe that adult baptism is preferable to infant baptism of the Holy Spirit, divine cleansing from sin and its guilt, identification with Christ in His death and resurrection and the commitment to follow Him in a life of faithful discipleship.
(XVIII) THE LORD’S SUPPER: We believe in observing the communion of the Lord's Supper as an ordinance instituted by Jesus Christ to symbolise the New Covenant. We recognise the bread and the cup as symbols commemorating Christ’s broken body and shed blood of our spiritual life in Him and of the spiritual unity and fellowship of the body of Christ. Each believer shall examine himself so as not to partake of the sacred emblems carelessly or while living in sin. The Church shall invite to the Lord’s table only who have peace with God and with their fellowmen and who share the faith o: the Church. The Lord’s Supper shall be observed faithfully until the second coming of the Lord.
(XIX) SYMBOLS OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP: We believe in the observance of the washing of the Saints’ feet as an ordinance instituted by the Lord Jesus. By His example Christ rebuked the pride and rivalry, within the Apostles and showed them that Christian disciple involves obedience to His Lordship and loving service. The ordinance reminds us of the brotherhood character of the church of our mural duty to serve and admonish one another, and of our need for continuous cleansing in our daily walks of life.
(XX) SYMBOLS OF CHRISTIAN ORDER: We believe that in their relation to the Lord, men and women are equal. for in Christ their is neither male nor female. But in the order of creation God had fitted man and woman for different functions. Man has been given a primary leadership role while the woman is especially fitted for nurture and service. Being in Christ does not nullify those natural endowments, either in the home or in the Church. the New Testament symbols of man’s head-ship are to be his short hair and uncovered head while praying or prophesying and the symbols of woman’s role are neat long hair and her veiled head.
(XXI) MARRIAGE AND THE HOME: We believe that at the beginning of human history, God instituted marriage. He ordained that a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife and that the two shall become one in love and mutual submission. It is God’s will that marriage be a holy state. Christian homes ought regularly to have family worships to seek faithfully to live according to the Word of God and to support the Church loyally in its mission.
(XXII) DISCIPLESHIP AND
NON-CONFORMITY: We believe that there are two opposing kingdoms to
which man gives their spiritual allegiance, that of Christ and that of
Satan. Those who belong to Satan’s kingdom live for sin and self and refuse
the obedience to faith. The Kingdom of Christ is composed of those who
have been born again and who have entered into a faith union with the Lord
Jesus Christ.
In them, the fruit of the
Spirit is evidence. They recognise the Lordship of Christ and perform all
manners of good works. They seek for holiness of heart. life and speech.
They regard their bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit and crucify their:
flesh with its affections and lusts. They avoid such things as harmful
drugs, alcoholic beverage and tobacco. Through the Spirit they put of the
old man and put on the new.
(XXII) CHRISTIAN INTERGRITY: We believe that it is a major Christian obligation to be strictly truthfully and transparently honest in life with no secrecy or hypocrisy. In legal matters we therefore simply affirm the truth. We are opposed to membership in secret and satanic societies because such membership would involve an unequal yoke with unbelievers. We believe that it is in the Church that we shall find love fellowship and security.
(XXIV) LOVE AND NON RESISTANCE: We believe that it is the will of God for His children to follow Christian love in all human relationships. Such a life of love excludes retaliation and revenge. The children of God must desire the welfare of all men. Only love must be shown to all men. We believe that this applied to every area of life.
(XXV) THE CHRISTIAN AND THE STATE: WE believe that the state is ordained of God to maintain law and order. We seek to obey the New Testament commands to render honour to the authorities to pay our taxes, to obey all the laws that do not conflict with the higher law of God and to pray for our rulers. The Church should also bear witness to the authorities of God’s redeeming love in Christ and of his sovereignty over all men.
(XXVI) THE FINAL CONSUMMATION: We believe that in addition to the physical order with which our senses are related there also exists an eternal spiritual order. the realm of God, of Christ, of the Holy Spirit. of the Angels and of the Church triumphant We believe that at death, the righteous will enter at once into conscious joy and fellowship with Christ while the wicked are in a state of conscious suffering. The Church also looks forward with hope to the day of the Lord to the personal return of Christ and the glorious future of the Kingdom of God. In the second coming of Christ. He will judge Satan and usher in the consummation of all things. His coming will introduce the resurrection, the transformation of the living saints, the judgement of the just and the unjust and the fulfilment of His Glorious rein. He will deliver the kingdom totally. Further cleanse the world by fire, create new heaven and a new earth.
(XXVII) In conclusion,
we hold as sacred these seven pillars as the foundation on which the Church
stands- The exposition of the Holy Scriptures; The exegesis on the powers
of the Holy Spirit; Soul winning evangelism: Attendance at Church Services:
The efficacy of intercessory prayers; Love towards God and our neighbours:
the complete unification of all Church worshipping as the children of Christ
in particular and that of all Christian worshippers all over the world
in general.
