What is Kwanzaa? Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday but a cultural festival celebrating traditional African values of family, community responsibility, commerce, and self-improvement. Kwanzaa, meaning "first fruits of the harvest", was founded in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga. It lasts seven days, beginning the day after Christmas and ending New Year's Day.
