FIGURE YOUR CITY'S LONG TERM BI-PV ELECTICITY PLAN: First, take the amount of square miles that comprise your city and multiply it by 640 acres. Multiply the total times 43,560 square feet to figure out how many square feet of land surface exists in your city. We then multiply it by .01 to find 1% of the total area of your city. That is the amount of square feet your city might reasonably develop with BI-PV in the next 50 to 100 years. Multiply the 1% of land in your city by an average of 10 watts per square feet to find out how much peak watts of electricity this area will produce. To figure the total watt hours it will produce in a day multiply your watt peak total by the average number of sun hours in your area. This may require some research possibly at the National Clearing House for Energy 800-360-3732. If you get a daily average for the whole year then multiply the number of watts hours produced in one day by 365 days to find out how much electricity 1% BI-PV surface will create for your community in a year. Call the local utility or city hall to find out how much electricity your city consumes in one year. Considering President Clinton's Million Solar Rooftops Program -how many years will it take to install 25% capacity for your city's electricity consumption needs -how many years for 75% of your city's electricity consumption needs?
