DADDY'S JOY GIRL
Jamie Michelle Gandy was born September 28, 1991 and brought us so much love and joy that
there is no way to describe what a wondrous blessing she has been to us all, especially her
daddy. She was my wife's seventh child, my fifth child and our tenth child. The love this little
girl has for everyone is so special and beautiful and she is a true joy. I love her more than
words can describe.
When she was about twenty six months old I came home after having one of those days where
the devil has attacked at every single point that is possible. I was physically and spiritually
exhausted by the time I walked in the front door, and I sat down on the couch and was just
going to veg in front of the TV, which was very uncharacteristic for me. Then Jamie walked
into the living room, looked me straight in the eyes, and then she started to sing:
I'm Daddy's Joy, Joy Girl
I'm Daddy's Joy, Joy Girl
I'm Daddy's Joy, Joy Girl
The Bible tells me so.
She proceded to sing this song dozens of times, until the sparkle had returned to my eyes.
Then she came over and gave me a wonderful hug and kiss. Shortly thereafter, it was time for
dinner. Jamie was on my left in her high chair and Jonathan sat on my right and they held
their hands out to pray.
This is one of the most wonderful things about having Christian children. On a day where the
spiritual attacks had been so fierce I felt a million miles from God, my children brought back
into His presence. When we parents raise our children to love God, and we put God in the
center of our home and build around Him, then He is there to help us all in our times of need.
When your children look at you and say, "Daddy, I love you fourth best." Your heart
overflows with joy when they say, "I love God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit and then you Daddy."
When God is their first love, does anything else really matter. But I still make mistakes.
One morning shortly thereafter, I made a horrible mistake. Jamie and I were sitting together
before I went to work, the other kids had already left for school, and she was radiant as always.
Then I told her, "You are the most beautiful of all my children." That night I came home and
her second oldest sister had taught her to do the splits. She did them for me in the kitchen
and Jamie was fantastic. After the fifth time I told her that was enough. Christi said to do
just one more. And Jamie fell and broke her front tooth, which had to be pulled the next
morning. The very next day I came home and Jamie was covered in little scabs. She had the
chicken pox. She was miserable and of course I felt terrible. I knew I had cursed her with my
words by telling her she was the most beautiful of all ten of my children. Two or three days
later she came up to me and she looked so mournful and helpless I scooped her up into my
arms. I looked deep into her sad little eyes and told her, "You still are the most beautiful of
all my children and I love you with all my heart. Her face broke out into a big smile as God
spoke to my spirit and said, "The reason she is so beautiful is because her beauty comes from
within!" How right you are O Lord.
To say that she is a little spoiled would be a touch of an understatement. But being raised the
youngest of seven at home, we now have four still at home, she has always given everyone love
and kisses and everything of herself. She is smart and witty and full of love for all. After I had
started officing at home, she stayed with me and we would have great days together. One day
when she was three and a half, her dog had puppies. She and I were the only ones at home
and I was extremely busy on the phones. She was in there all the time with her dog as it had
puppies and she would come into my office to report each time one was born. One was
stillborn, but three were alive and Jamie was the perfect little midwife. I was so proud of her.
That was the day she decided she wanted to be a veterinarian. And that is what she wants to
be three years later. She has a gentleness about her that all animals trust and her compassion
for any living creature is amazing.
One day she was back in her bedroom taking a nap. She was close to four years old and she
was sleeping so peacefully. I went to look and see if the kids were okay and I saw Jonathan
sitting on the foot of her bed just staring at her. I whispered, "What are you doing son?" He
looked up at me and said, "I'm just watching her sleep Dad. Isn't she beautiful? I could sit
here all day looking at her. She is so pretty. I love her so much." With a brother like
Jonathan, she's truly a blessed little girl. And he still loves her so much. He is very protective
of his little sister. I love to watch them together. They love each other so much and are so
peaceful together.
I believe that one of the ways to remind them they love each other is to say to them, "I love
that boy don't you, or, I love that girl don't you?" Of course they always respond yes, but it
reminds them they do love one another. And irregardless what anyone says to the contrary,
always give them as many hugs and kisses as they allow. All living creatures love to be loved.
So always Kiss 'em, Hug 'em and Tell 'em you Love 'em and you you both will be blessed
because of it. God Bless You my children, I love you.
Jamie is my joygirl. I don't know why God has blessed me so much with the beautiful little princess, but He has. She is such a joy to love and be around. Thank You so much for the joy that is within her dear God. Thank You Lord for Jamie Michelle. I love her so.
