Lots of things have a stark contrast, like the colors black and white, but it's not limited to that. When two things greatly contrast, there is often conflict. There is a contrast between what we perceive and what really exists. When there is conflict, it is seldom eternal, so the contrast leads to adaptation, and ultimately, acceptance.
