The false prophet (antichrist) was a Christian, highly regarded by both Catholics and Protestants. During his early days he was a champion of the Word of God. He stayed faithful to the Lord's Teachings. His teachings include the forbidding of abortion and illicit sex, condemning those who depend on medicine for eternal life instead of God, admonishing worldly and carnal Christians, etc. He may be unpopular among some nominal and worldly Christians, but he has won the respect of Christians in general, and especially godly Christians. Because of his desire to hold onto his position and power, he will compromise by keeping the traditions of his denomination (which make the Word of God void). Because of this, he will not be counted worthy to be an `elect of God' and thus will miss the Rapture. After Rapture the Beast will fulfill his ambition and empower him with the ability to perform signs and wonders. This will cause him to accept the Beast as the `Messiah', thus destroying his own salvation. Since then he becomes the false prophet (antichrist) and he will deceive Christians by proclaiming the Beast ruling in Jerusalem as `Jesus coming for His Millennium Rule' to fulfill scriptures. Many Christians will definitely be misled resulting in their damnation.
Since `the Beast' (1st.Beast in Rev 13:1-8) can only appear after Rapture and this `false prophet' (2nd. Beast in Rev 13:11-18) is after `the Beast', thus all these events will be after Rapture.
Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. Rev 13:11-13
…coming up out of the earth
Out of the sea - i.e. from among the Gentiles or Heathens
Out of the earth - i.e. non-Gentiles, Jews or Christians.
…he had two horns like a lamb
Horn – Kingdom or authority
Lamb – Godly Christians or Christ-like
He will appear to be a godly Christian, highly respected in the Christian circle (both Catholic and Protestant – 2 horns) and holding very high position. However, the Devil, knowing his pride, will give him extreme power to perform signs and wonders. Immediately, he will accept the Devil as his master thus losing his salvation to become the false prophet or antichrist.
…he spoke like a dragon
Dragon – Satan or the devil
He is the agent of the devil. He will go forth to do the work of the devil to mislead and deceive Christians with wrong teachings and doctrines. The work of the devil is to destroy the work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross.
Once a Christian loses faith in any part of the Word of God, the devil then has a foothold on him. He will become worldly and at a later stage will become more of the agent of the devil. He will begin to preach and teach heresies. At this stage he has become the false christ. Once he denies the Lord or worships Satan (another religion) or bows down to the image of the Beast or accepts the mark of the beast (name or number ‘666’) on his hand or forehead, he has lost his salvation and will then become an antichrist. His destination is the Lake of fire.
...he exercises all the authority of the first beast
His empowering is from the Devil and he will have authority as that of the Beast.
…he causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
He will point to all mankind (especially Christians and Jews, since the rest of mankind are all destined for damnation as no further salvation for them after Rapture) to worship the Beast, who died and was resurrected. Thus, the Beast an imitation of our Lord Jesus Christ, will portray himself as the `Saviour of the world' and also the `son of God'.
…he performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men.
He will perform great signs and wonders. He will even call fire to come down from heaven in the presence of all people just as Elijah in the Old Testament. Many misled Christians are still awaiting ‘Elijah’ and thus will be easily deceived by him.
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their father, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse." Mal 4:5-6
Elijah was sent back to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers. This was fulfilled by John the Baptist during the time of our Lord.
But the angel said to him, " Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John… And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." Luke 1:13; 16-17
Before our Lord started His ministry, John the Baptist was sent to prepare the way for Him. He was the Elijah to come and he had already come. Thus, we will not be expecting anymore Elijah.
"For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come." Matt 11:13-14
And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first? Jesus answered and said to them, "Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things." But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands." Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist. Matt 17:10-13
Because the false prophet will perform similar signs and wonders of Elijah. He will claim that he is the ‘Elijah’ to come as prophesied in Malachi. Majority of the Jews and many Christians will believe him. He will then proclaim that he is here to prepare the way for the `messiah'. He will then mislead them to believe that the Beast (Devil's incarnate) is the `messiah'. Thus, once they worship the Beast, they will be condemned to eternal damnation with the Devil.
So
Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, ‘If I am a
man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you
and your fifty men." And fire came down from heaven and consumed
him and his fifty. II Ki
1:10
And
when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord do
You want us to command fire to-come down from heaven and consume
them, just as Elijah did?" Luke
9-54
Many sleeping and worldly church leaders too will be deceived for they will be convinced that this false prophet is Elijah. Furthermore, misled Christians are awaiting Elijah (as one of the two witnesses) to come back just before the 2nd. Coming of our Lord to begin His Millennium Rule. This false prophet will be mistaken as the ‘true’ Elijah, who will direct them to worship the Beast as Jesus our Lord.
"And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth. And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner. Rev 11:3-5
The Beast will then be worshipped by misled Christians and Jews as the `Messiah', who has come to begin His Millennium Rule.

And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. Rev 13:14-15
The false prophet will make an image of the Beast to ensures that all mankind will continue to worship the Beast and rebel against God even after the Beast and Satan were taken away from this world. This image will be able to speak and perform mirages, such as killing anyone who refuses to worship it. All mankind will accept the presence of `god' in the image.
He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. Rev 13:16-18
The final deception of the Devil was to force all mankind (especially Christians and Jews) to accept the mark of the beast, otherwise they will not be able to trade. Christians, out of fear of losing their money and wealth will accept the mark. Many, fearing that they will be starved to death will also take the mark. This gives the Devil the authority to be the new owner of all those who have taken the mark whether on their right hands or foreheads.
