Chapter 2

“You coming C!” called a voice and a head stuck it’s way into JC Chasez’s room.

“Where?” asked JC looking up from his keyboard to stare at the short man with dark hair and goatee enter all they way in the room.

“Remember Justin? That kid I met last week? Well I told him I’d take him clubbing tonight,” replied the short man. “Joey’s coming so that means you’ll be here all alone if you don’t come.”

“Okay Chris,” laughed JC standing up and moving away from his keyboard. JC was fast becoming a talented music writer and producer and usually his roommates Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick had to drag him away from his work. Tonight however JC was experiencing a case of writer’s block and he figured a night out would do him good. “Give me fifth teen minutes then I’ll be ready to go.”

“Great C!” cried Chris as he bounded away to see if Joey was almost ready, of course JC secretly thought that Joey was always ready to go clubbing.

There was another reason why JC wanted to go out though. He knew that James’ birthday was fast approaching and that time of the year always made him depressed. He loved James so much and it hurt him deeply when he realized that he was going to have to move away. Never did he thought that he was going to have to give up James in the process. He had forgotten the number of times he had been one number away from dialing James’ number when he would chicken out, afraid that James would be angry with him for breaking their deal, and having James made at him was something that JC couldn’t live with.

“You’re thinking of him again aren’t you?” spoke up a soft voice quietly and Josh looked up to find his other roommate Joey standing in his doorway. Josh had told Joey and Chris all about James, of course they had to force it out of him but in the end they had received the whole story.

“Am I really the pathetic?” groaned Josh as he flopped down on his bed. “It’s been five years and I’m still not over him.”

“You’re not pathetic JC,” replied Joey sitting down next to JC so that he could rub his hand up and down JC’s back comforting him. “You’re in love.”

“Why couldn’t he love me the way I love him?” sobbed JC so loud that Chris heard him and also entered the room sitting down on his other side.

“Maybe he did,” replied Chris softly wrapping his arms around JC. They were use to this, he and Joey, for every so often JC would start missing his former love and needed comfort.

“What?” asked JC confused but then again in the time that Chris had known the younger man JC was confused often. “He was the one who wanted to break up! How is that loving me?”

“What was your dream when you were a kid?” asked Joey knowing what Chris was getting at. “What did you want to be when you grew up?”

“Making music,” replied JC softly, music had always been his passion, just like he couldn’t live without Lance, he couldn’t live without music.

“Exactly,” whispered Chris. “To follow your dream you had to leave. James loved you enough to let you go. He knew that you wouldn’t be truly happy doing anything else so he put your happiness over his.”

“You think so?” sniffed JC looking back and forth at his friends with watery eyes.

“We know so,” replied Joey softly. “Sure we never knew James but you talk about him all the time. He doesn’t sound like the type that goes around breaking people’s hearts.”

“Thanks guys,” whispered JC as he wiped at his eyes. “Give me a few minutes, then I’ll be ready to go.”

“Take your time,” replied Joey giving him another hug before standing up and moving to the door pausing for a few minutes waiting for Chris.

“Yeah right,” cried Chris. “You’ve got five minutes and if you’re not ready to go you’ll be going the way you are when I bust down your door to drag you out and I don’t care even if you’re naked!”

“Yes sir!” laughed JC saluting Chris as his two best friends moved off to finish getting ready themselves.
