“A new best friend,” joked the slightly older man with blond spiky hair and the greenest eyes a person saw.
“Come on Lance,” groaned the curly-haired man. “I’ve been your best friend for five years! I deserve a break in buying you presents so please tell me what you want. I mean besides getting drunk off your ass since you are now twenty-one.”
‘Josh! I want Josh!’ Lance silently replied. It had been five years since Joshua Chasez left, then James, to go to college in LA. A lot had happened in those five years. James started going by his middle name Lance (a suggestion made by Justin); He had met Justin, his best friend, the day that Josh moved away (it was Justin’s family who had moved in to the house that the Chasez’s use to live in); He moved to Florida to go to college and two years later Justin had followed and they quickly moved in together; There was one thing that never changed though and that was Lance’s love for Josh.
“Lance!” yelled Justin bringing Lance out of his daze. Lance never told Justin what had happened. All Justin knew was that Lance had been friends with the boy who lived in the house before him and that his moving away hurt Lance deeply.
“Justin you know I like surprises,” whined Lance, he really didn’t want to talk about his birthday right now but he didn’t have a class for another two hours so he couldn’t use that as an excuse to leave.
“Fine, I’ll just find you a guy to fuck you then,” declared Justin with a teasing grin on his face. “It’s been too long since you’ve gotten laid. You’ve been too tense lately.”
“We are so not having that conversation right now!” declared Lance walking away from the younger man. Although he loved Justin like a brother there were times when the Tennessee native got under his skin.
“It’s not like I’m trying to find you a boyfriend or anything!” protested Justin following Lance as he moved around the apartment. “It’s just a harmless Fuck. No strings attached which is a lot better than that deal you got going on with that guy you’ve been seeing recently.”
“Look, Nick is-“
“A prick, I know. Everybody knows. Britney knows, Wade knows, Christina knows, my mom’s dog knows. You’re too good for him.”
“That’s for me to decide and no one else,” growled Lance but in his heart Lance knew that Justin was right. It was just so hard finding the right guy especially when he already found the right guy but wasn’t bright enough to keep him.
“Whatever man!” sighed Justin rolling his eyes before changing the subject. “This guy I met, Chris, knows how to get into all the hottest clubs around. You coming with us tonight or are you staying here?”
“I’m staying here,” replied Lance as he flopped on the couch and started flipping through channels. “Nick’s coming over since he wants me to help him with an essay.”
‘Yeah, help,’ Justin thought sarcastically knowing that Lance would end up doing the whole thing for Nick while he watched the game on TV. Nick Carter was bad news and Justin always wondered what a nice guy like Lance saw in him. ‘Probably because from what I’ve heard Nick is completely the opposite from that Josh guy Lance use to date.’ Justin wasn’t completely dumb, he knew as soon as he met Lance that there was something bothering the sixteen year old. So he had asked around and learned about Josh and Lance and how they decided to break up when Josh was forced to move away. When Justin first heard of Josh, Justin wanted to kill him for hurting someone like Lance so much but later he learned that it had been Lance’s decision for the breakup and not Josh’s.
“I’ll see you later then,” called Justin as he wandered back into his own room to get ready for his night out on the town with Chris and his friends.
