Savory : Why Are You Still Here? Exeter played two friendly matches before the season begins, with "The Damage" playing his 107,345th and 107,346th games for the first team. The first of these saw a 7-5 away victory against St Catz which captain Fads described as "pretty routine". According to their match report, they only care about winning the beer leg anyway, which they inevitably did, so everybody went home happy. Except Savory, of course, who lost both legs, a result always guaranteed to please the opposition. Catz give their own view of the match on their website. |
The second was an away match against The Somerset pub, arranged through Exeter's groundsman and all-round pub talk legend, Ian Madden.
Madden himself proved useful, and the experience of the pub team was too much,
as Exeter went down 7-2 (each match being a best-of-three 501). Clifford and
Stevenson were the two winners. Pride was more than recovered in the beer-leg, however, which Exeter won by 564 points after finishing 1001 in 51 darts. A battered
team then returned chez Bubbles (left), who had won her leg against an Oriel first-teamer in the second team's friendly match the previous week. The seconds beat
an Oriel team combining first and second team players. As Clifford will testify,
the Oriel man will be shattered after losing to a girl ... |
