Despite some truly amazing darts being played at times, 2000-2001 was a "nearly season"
for Exeter Darts (see "League season review"), finishing 2nd in the league by a single point after failing to secure the required
8-4 win against John's, and contriving to lose to Queen's after an exceptional
run in the beer leg. Elsewhere, Graham Stevenson was ousted in the semis of both singles and doubles Cuppers, the latter in partnership
with Tom Clifford, while the team lost in the quarters to Catz There were still some classic matches : Queen's (a) Exeter had to win in one of the most difficult away venues to stop the old enemy winning the title. Apparently quite a good performance ensued. St Peter's (a) With Exeter's season stuttering, Stevenson chose this moment to throw the best leg ever seen in university darts and inspire a crushing victory. Beer-Leg A superb run included some inspired darts, only to fall at the final hurdle. Fads supplies a great value report. |
Captain Jimmy Nicholls succinctly summed up the seconds’ first-ever season for us all in a very helpful
e-mail. Unfortunately, we lost the play-off he mentions to Worcester after Rich
Earl hit the winning double in a beer leg. 2nd by 7 points from Univ, although we beat them at home and had quite a few good results. They must have shat on some of the other teams eg Oriel, Queens to have come ahead of us; they had one less draw and in my absence we failed to shit on Queens birds for the second time. Oh well, we have to play Worcester in a playoff to go up to division 5. Still a good first season all in all. C*nts in division 6 : New III - they are proud of being shit, their captain's a fucking c*nt and they are generally poor; they also have team stiou nepalese woolly hats. Best value in division 6 : Oriel II - Good banter, good blokes. |
