Rock
Island Inc. 155mm Heavy Field Gun
|
The
155mm Field Gun is the standard size and configuration field
weapon for both the Alliance and the Axis. The 155mm has been in
production for over a half century and it has yet to show its age.
While the manufacturing techniques have improved, the basic
configuration has not changed in 50 years. The gun is mounted on a
wheeled or tracked platform that is towed by a medium or heavy
vehicle, when placed several support feet are lowered and anchored
into place. The 155mm can fire a variety of weapons from standard
high explosives to sensor deployment projectiles. However, its
basic operation is simply that of a large bore single gun, able to
deliver devastating volleys of explosive into an area with deadly
accuracy, that accuracy can be further refined by the use of a
forward observer who relays targeting information back to the
weapons crew. The 155mm uses a crew of 5, a Field Gunner (equal to
a commander), two Gunners Mate’s who load the weapon, and
Ordinance Specialist who calculates the weapons yield and
trajectory and a Targeting Coordinator who fires the weapon and
adjusts the weapons position.
