I'm Larz from Death's Bride. Kristof mailed me your questions... Here are the answers...
First tell us little about history of your band, from what country are you, and discography: Death's Bride is a Belgian death metal band that started in 1992, in January '95 we released our selftitled debut which contained a blend of hardcore and Death metal. This First release showed the imperfection of a first recording and we set a new landmark in '96 with our second release "Carpe Mortem" This demo stuck to pure death metal without however walking the beaten path of hackneyed clich? Concepts such as melody, technicalness and variation took a key-position in the characterization of Deaths Brides music. The powerful alternating high and low grunt-vocals provided the indispensable aggression that is a characteristic of solid death metal. In January 98 our Third Demo The Millenium was released. This demo-tape made clear that Deaths Bride had taken an important step forward. Its own style began to define itself. Aggression and melody are skillfully forged together. This third release was received quite well by the local press(Aardschok, Mindview, Demo-release of the Month for Spin City) as well as from zines abroad.
1.Who are the band members: As I said Death's Bride consists of 5 persons Tommy Goffin : Drums & vocals Raf Biesmans : Bass Kristof Schoefs : Guitar Filip Falzone : Guitar Larz : Vocals
2.How did you got your name and what does
it means:
The name of the band was an idea from raf, it doesn't really mean something, we just
thought it sounded cool and so we kept it...
3.What music stile do you play and compare
it to some similar bands:
We play Technical en melodic Death Metal it can best be Compared with bands like Death,
Pestilence, At the Gates, Edge of Sanity and such. We tru however to create an own style
so that we don't become a copy of the bands previously mentioned.
4.Some of your favorite groups: Our taste in Music differs from person to person, Me for example, I like bands like Megadeth, Edge of Sanity, Death, Anthrax, Overkill.... I'm what you might call an 80's Thrasher, the other guys in the band all like differently and similar stuff, for example: Flip likes black metal a lot, Tommy is more into bands like Hypocrisy,Raf likes the Technical stuff like Death, Kristof... well I don't even know what he likes, I guess about the same as all the others!....I can try to explain it for days, but to sum it up we are very different in musical tastebut also like the same bands
5.Your opinion about underground and commercial music scene: I think the underground is a very strong scene, there is a lot of support from motivated people towards bandslike us. These persons deserve decorations 'cause their aid comes mostly for free and that means they really take interest in music. The commercial music scene is a joke! They keep their eyes closed to good music and only take interest to things the make the most money at the shortest time.
6.What was the biggest success of your band: Well, depends on what you call success... Our last demo-CD "The Millennium" had the best reactions so far. But I can't say we had a big success yet,... maybe with our new releasewhen it comes out ( No date specified yet)
7.How many concerts did you played and by
your opinion what was the best:
We play a lot of gigs and I apologize but I really can't remember how many. We are around
for 7 years now and that makes a lot of gigs... The best one we ever did (in means of
having fun) is to my opinion the one in Hellevoetsluis (Holland) Dutch people are really
enthusiast and know how to make fun.... It feels great when you see a moshpit in front of
the stage, it makes you feel better and play better.... It some sort of action-reaction
thing. I feel that every gig where our friends who come to look at us have fun and go
wildy raging, is a great concert.
8.The favorite song you made and why:
Hard question, here again each band member has a different song he likes. I'll stick to my
own favorite songs, which is "My thoughts, My egocraty". A songs about a man who
created his own world and goes slightly insane in it. I like it so much because it
reflects a little to my childhood.
9.Where you on some local radio show (or something like that): Well, we have been on some local radio shows, mostly for interviews as such... we heard we have airplay in some countries in Europe but also Canada, U.S.A and South-America. We can't check it out, but are confident we have the support of some really cool people over the world.
10.Do you think that underground music need more attention of media and what is your opinion about big music televisions and radio stations(such as MTV,Viva.....): Personally I think the underground should be left alone... it's a great thing and more media especially commercial would probably destroy it, 'cause that's what money always does. Concerning MTV and such things, I think it's great that they brings music worldwide especially when they have metal orientated shows but again they don't pay attention to the smaller fish for they don't bring enough money from the sea
11.Do you have support of local metal
fans:
I guess so...We sell a lot of copies from "the millennium" and always have a lot
of friends that come checking us out at gigs. I don't like to call them fans though...
they are our friends, it's them who keep us doing the thing we do...
12.Plans for the future:
Well we are trying to get a record deal so that we can record our newer songs and
release them, we hope to find a label who will pay for recording a Mini-CD. Until then
we'll just try to play as many gigs as possible.
13.Say something for the end: First of, thanx for the interview, and greetings out to all who take time out to read this. Thanx for your support and remember: Death Without Frontiers!!!!!
