Dim Mak Interview Replies:
1.Tell us when did your band start playing, who formed the band and why?
1. Dim Mak came into existance in the early part of 1996, three members of Ripping Corpse
(Brandon, Shaune, and myself) decided after a two year hiatus that we still had the heart
to play extreme technical music. After a lengthy search we found our bassist, Dennis (ex-
Torture Krypt) and this is the line-up that still exists today.
2.Bands line up,and since early begings did you changed line up and if you did
why?
2. Dennis Carroll - bass, Shaune Kelley - guitar, Brandon Thomas - drums, Scott Ruth -
vocals; like stated in the last question, this is the one and only line-up.
3.How did you found the right name for the band, was it hard for you,did you
changed your name, and waht does it means and does it fits to music that you are playing?
3. The name was taken from martial arts, specifically it is a form that uses strikes to
pressure points to the body, it is ominously known as the "death touch." It fits
the band because it is unique and deadly.
4.Can you describe your music, can you compare it to some similar bands?
4. our music is intense technical death/thrash with some hardcore elements, it's next to
impossible to compare our sound to others.
5.Are you religius,do you belive in god, satan or something else or you are
atheist(you can skip this question)?
5. None of us hold any religious belifs except belief in ourselves.
6.Describe us your local undergound metal and core scean,is there any band that
you want to mention, are there many fans of this kind of music?
6. Right now ther is no strong underground scene in our area, although there are great
bands emerging: e.g. CATTLEPRESS, VICTORY HAWK and BURNT BY THE SUN.
7.Who writes your lyrics and what are they about?
7. I (Scott) write all the lyricsand they are about personal and symbolic expressions of
struggle, inner strength, and many times they are a cathartic release.
8.Do you have problems with music equpment?
8. We are veterans, so technical problems don't phase us anymore. Mostly we have problems
with poor sound in some of the dumps (clubs) we play.
9.Is it hard to find musicians in your country that want to play that kind of
music?
9. It was extremely difficult finding a bassist who could keep up with the intensity and
technicality of the music we play, but there are a lot of good players in the NYC/ NJ
area.
10.What is your opinion about bands such as Last Days of
Humanity,Metallica,Sick of it All,Creadle of filth?
10. The first band mentioned we're not familiar with, Metallica have lost all our respect,
Sick of it All still have it, and Cradle of Filth never had it.
11.How many concerts did you played on by your opinion what was the best?
11. Since early '96, maybe 50 - 60 shows; mostly local. Best show was likely a metalfest
at CBGB's with Malevolent Creation, Oppressor, Immolation, and Napalm Death.
12.What is you favourite movie?
12. Way too many faves to list, but we enjoy extreme films; be it horror, science fiction
or animation.
13.Do you have some musical idol?
13. We have no idols.
14.Did any of you played before in some othere band or do you still play in
some other band?
14. As stated earlier, three of us come from Ripping Corpse, one from Torture Krypt.
15.Plans for the future?
15. Record a 2nd full length CD and tour.
16.Say something for the end:
16. Hails Yugoslavia! ! Thank you for the opportunity to have our say.
