1.Tell us little about bands history,who formed the band and why ,when was band formed,also where are you from?
We're the dutch gothicrock band Asrai from Rotterdam. Margriet and Karin started the girlsband Twins no Twins in 1985. At that time in our scene many friends were playing in a band, but hardly any woman, so we change that. We played for three years as a girlsband. And than we chance our line-up. Karin was playing the guitar but start playing drums. A friend of us join the band and plays the guitar. It was time to chance our name into Asrai, it was 1988

2.The bands line up,did you changed it since beginning or are you planing to
change it?
Well we change our line-up a couple of times
Our Asrai line-up was Margriet - vocals
Elfriede - Bass
Bert - Guitar
Karin - Drums
In this line-up we played for eight years, great years, but Elfriede and Bert didn't have the time to on with the band and left. A few weeks later we got ourself a new guitar- and bassplayer.
Serge - Guitar
Leah - Bass
In this line-up we played for about three years. Serge was also a lighttechnician so in time it was a difficult combination. Well again we found a new guitarplayer. Two to be exact.
Jos - Guitar
Rik - Guitar
In this combination we played for a couple of month now. Jos on this moment very busy with his other band. So maybe in the futher we change the line-up again.
Did you changed name since early
beginnings? Yes, In the beginning after change in our line-up

4.Can you describe your music and compare it to some similar bands?
Asrai is a gothic rock band,The roots of our music lays in the eighties, but ofcourse with influece of other kinds of music like Gothic, Metal, Rock.
Still our style is dificult to compare with other bands.

5.What is your favorite band?
Margriet - Diamande Gallas
Leah - the Sisters of Mercy
Rik - Nine inch Nails
Karin - Dreadfull Shadows

6.Who writes the lyrics and can you describe them?
Most of the lyrics are written by Margriet Karin and Rik. Well the lyrics is based upon live itself we try to express this trough our music. We think that you can regonize the feeling based on your own experience

7.How many times did you played live:
Well to be honest. through the years we stop counting
do you have some special act when you are on stage:
No, on stage we are ourself no theater-stuff
and what was you best concert?
Well we had great and crazy times, specially with our concerts. We realy like it on stage but in this line-up. Our concert with The Damned was a good one

8.Can you tell us little about your local underground scean?
The goth scene in the netherlands is unfortunatily very small. Over the past years new laws were introduced which resulted in closing a lot of clubs. So there are not many clubs left who do only undergroundbands, and that a pitty.

9.Your discography and can you tell us something about your latest material,is it deferent than the old one?
With Elfriede and Bert we record several tapes
Asrai- The blue tape
So clear that you couldn't tell where the water ended and the air began
Live in a package
Love is a Lie
Asrai-promotape
And one of our songs came out on the compilation X-treem CD

With Leah and Serge we record our CD: As voices speak. This CD was also brought out in Germany with a special edition. We came on several compitaion CD's like: Poison Ivy strike, Toughed by the hand of Goth and Twilight of the Gods.

Two weeks ago we went to the studio and record some new songs.

Time changed our music, but still when you listen you know it's us

10.What do you think about gore grind?
You can't compare those two scene and we don't have that kind of music at home, but we like to go to gigs of many diffrent band and difftent style of music. Gore grind have a lot of engergy and aggresion. Great to see that live on stage

11.Plans for the future?
Yes, ofcourse. On this moment we record some song, for a new album.
