1. Tell us when did your band start playing, who
formed the band and why?
* Dave - Sludge! was formed in Spring of 1997 right around Easter. Me
and my brother starting looking for people that clicked for about a good
year and a half. Finally found a real good drummer that knew what we
wanted. The found our singer about a month later. Jim our drummer and
Dan our singer played in a band about 1 year before we all got together.
The band was formed cause we all had a certain message to give out and
we all love playing real heavy music. None of that shitty Creed kind of
music that fills our airwaves right now.
2. Bands line up, and since early begins did you changed line up and if you did
why?
* Dave - The band has been the same line-up for almost 4 years now when
we started back in Spring of 1997. Nothing has changed except for Dan
our singer now shares the guitar parts along with me on most of the new
songs we play.
Line Up :
Dan Snyder : All Vocals, 2nd Guitar
Dave Orkin : Guitar
James Scarduzio : Drums
Paul Orkin : Bass Guitar
3. How did you found the right name for the band, was it hard for you, did you
changed your name, and what does it means and does it fits to music that you are playing?
* Dave - The band came about as a joke at first due to the band Judge. I
hated old school hardcore music and decided to make fun of it somehow.
But it didn't work that way. We hung onto the name until after we got
together. The name fit the kind of music we played so we stuck with it.
The name means a lot to us now though since we've been going so strong.
4. Can you describe your music, can you compare it to some similar bands?
* Dave - Well, music I would have to say a slow mid paced sometimes real
fast hate-metal/grind type music. Best compares to Neglect meets Crowbar
meets Clutch meets Black Sabbath meets The Melvins on crack huffing glue
through a straw. LOL!
5. Are you religious, do you believe in god, Stan or something else or you are
atheist (you can skip this question)?
* Dave - Yeah, I'm not real religious too much. I do believe there is a
god but no one will really ever know. Sometimes I wonder why we all
believe in something or someone that we really don't know if it exists
or not. I think that has to do with politics and all that shit.
6. Describe us your local underground metal and core scene, is there any band
that you want to mention, are there many fans of this kind of music?
* Dave - Our scene is real strange these days anymore. Too many damn
punk rock bands playing three chord Green Day riffs. There is some of
the scene that is great though here in my area. Just depends on the
trend that kids go through anymore.
Bands I would like to mention yes. There's some real good ones. Mortal
Decay ( NJ ), Innercore ( NJ ),
¼ Inch Microbomb ( MD - R.I.P. ), Bloodbourne ( MD ), Vicious Circle (
NJ ), San Eyed Minds ( MD ), Countermeasure ( IN ), & Hatred ( VA ).
7. Who writes your lyrics and what are they about?
* Dave - Most of the lyrics get written by Dan our singer. Sometimes our
drummer will write some as well every once and a while if he feels like
he has something to say. Our lyrics deal with the social injustices of
today's population and what not. Too many things going on that people
don't realize about.
8. Do you have problems with music equipment?
* Dave - Not really unless we've been playing shows non-stop for like 3
months or so other wise it's all good.
9. Is it hard to find musicians in your country that want to play that kind of
music?
* Dave - It depends on the kind of music you play nowadays. If you wanna
play in a cover band there's no problem finding people. But if you wanna
play real heavy aggressive metal type band, forget about it. There's
nobody in my area except for cover bands and punk bands.
10. What is your opinion about gore music and lyrics and what is your favorite
gore band?
* Dave - Gore music and lyrics are great! Some of the best gore bands
are Mortal Decay, Cannibal Corpse, Exhumed, Gorgasm, Anal Blast, etc. My
favorite gore band I would have to say once again is the great Mortal
Decay. Their music is well written along with their lyrics.
11. How many concerts did you played on by your opinion what was the best, do
you have some special act when you are on the stage?
* Dave - We've done about 150 shows in the 4 years we've been together
now. We really don't have a special act really when we play live shows
at all. Just local bands when we travel or bands we are good friends
with that are starting out and need some kind of exposure. The last time
we went on the road though we brought a band with us called ¼ Inch
Microbomb. Real good band.
12. Do you like gore movies?
* Dave - Sure I do. Dead Alive is one of the best gore movies out there
still today in the cult following.
13. 3 favorite songs?
* Dave - Powerflesh Numb, After Crawl, & Under Muck.
14. Did any of you played before in some other band or do you still play in
some other band?
* Dave - We've all played in various bands before in the past years.
None of us play in any other band at all except for Sludge! No time to
really do anything else.
15. Plans for the future?
* Dave - We plan on going back in the studio to record our new songs and
find a label to release it for us. Other wise we'll release it under my
own label I'm starting up called " Demons Inside ".
16. Say something for the end:
* Dave - I wanna thank you Ivan for this interview. We've been trying to
promote ourselves more and more every day. Thanks to all the bands we've
played with, our friends and fans for supporting us through the years,
fanzines, labels, distros., & radio stations all over the world.
