Where is he now?

He is currently playing with Crystal Palace of the English Division One.

Where has he been?

Jovan went to England when he was sixteen and played for the reserve team of one of the Premier League's most venerated and succesful clubs, Manchester United. After playing with the team for four exemplary years and posting 21 goals in 20 games in the `95-`96 season, Jovan was unable to gain a work permit to work in England. He then went to Germany and to play for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. With this team he became the first American to ever play in a Champions League match in November of 1996 when they beat Atletico de Madrid 1-0. He was tranfered for $1.4 million dollars to Sunderland of the English First Division but was once again denied approval for a work permit. For the 98-99 season, he was on loan to Fortuna Köln of the Bundesliga 2, presumably to gain more playing experience.

He was back with Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga for the 99-00 season. He did not see any playing time before the winter break. He then played with Sporting Libson (the site is in Portugese; at SoccerAge, in English) of the 1 Liga for the `00-`01 season.

Kirovski played in the Centennial Olympics in Atlanta in 1996. In the second U.S. game vs. Tunisia, Kirovski scored the team's first goal on a 23 yard direct kick. His 38th minute goal helped the U.S. to a 2-0 victory. Jovan played more minutes than any other US player in 1999 in contrast to his 45 minutes total and non-appearance at the World Cup in 1998 after falling out of favor with former Men's National Team coach Steve Samson.

Why is he unique?

But unlike most US players who go to college here in the States, Jovan went to England to play soccer as a teenager. In most of the world, kids are playing professional soccer by their late teens and they know then whether or not they have a pro career ahead of them. Most US players don't go pro until after a couple years of college, although the MLS is changing that.
