The Amazing Spider-Man # 14

Story:John Byrne Art: John Byrne & Dan Green
Cover by John Byrne
Shocking news! A passenger airplane exploded and fell down in the ocean, leaving no hope for survivors. Mary Jane, wife of Bugle photographer Peter Parker was in that plane, who was in route to an assignement outside the country, was considered dead.

Mattie Franklin, as known as the newest Spider-Woman, knew the news during breakfast and headed to Peter's penthouse.

Once there, she met Aunt May and a transtorned and totally sad Peter. When they were talking, the evil Spider-Woman showed up, invading the place and attacking Peter. This made Mattie figure out that Peter was Spider-Man.

When Mattie struggled against her evil foe, Peter took Aunt May to a secure place and returned dressed as Spider-Man.

After a hard fight, a wall fell down over Mattie, covering her with bricks and permiting the evil Spider-Woman to escape.

Spider-Man removed the bricks and found a fainted Spider-Woman. Fearing she was badly hurt, he made mouth to mouth breath in order to get her back. She recovered and continuing kissing him, said: "Don't you see? Don't you see how it all comes together? It was meant to be! Me getting powers! M.J. dying! We were made for each other!"

PPSM#14 All the main characters of the spiderverse were showed crying for the death of Mary Jane in a plane crash: Aunt May, Jill Stacy, Joe and Martha Robertson, Flash Thompson, Betty Brant, Glory Grant, Arthur Stacy, Liz Osborn, Anna Watson and Ben Urich. Even Jonah Jameson was shocked.

For Peter, the only way to deal with Mary Jane's death was denial. He denied all the news and went in a desesperate fight against the green giant known as Hulk, who, he thought, was responsible for the plane crash.

They fought a long time, until Spidey was with his hands blooding. They destroyed a train tracks and, when a train was coming to a disaster, they stopped fighting and repaired the tracks, permitting the train to pass securely. Then, Hulk desappeared.

A short time later, Peter returned home and found Aunt May. He said her: "You'll see. You (Aunt May) came back. She will, too."

Later that night, Peter received a mysterious phone call and heard about M.J. that she was alive. Or was he dreaming?...
