Mouse Care |
Food Mice, like us, are omnivores. That means that they will pretty much eat anything, a handy thing for us mouse owners. As a rule of thumb, most small animal foods work fine, but if you can find rat and/or mouse food, it is better for them, less fatty. A pinch of hamster food is fine, but it is REALLY fattening. As for water, wild mice do without, but your pets need to have fresh, clean water avalible at all times. Don't bother giving them water in a dish because they will just soil it with their bedding. Use a water bottle with a spinny ball like this one: |

Cages: I myself prefer aquariums to wire cages. Everywhere you go there is competition. The reason that I don't like wire cages is because if the length between the wires is too big, the mouse can get tangled up in it. Also, if your mouse has babies, the babies can wander out and slip through the bars. Sounds like you want to buy a wire cage doesn't it? Didn't think so. You should clean the cage atleast 1-2 times a week. The males produce a strong smelling odor, and changing the bedding everyday stresses them out and they create an even stronger odor. |
Bedding: DO NOT USE CEDAR OR PINE SHAVING/PELLETS/ANY ASSOCIATED PRODUCT OF PINE/CEDAR! THE FUMES CAN CAUSE YOUR MICE TO WEEZE AND SNEEZE AND COUGH. USE CAREFRESH OR ASPEN BEDDING. OTHER WISE IF YOU DONT.. WELL.. YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW... SO LISTEN TO MY WARNING EVERYONE! DO NOT BUY PINE/ CEDAR PRODUCTS! |
