About 5 hrs of driving from Kochi ( about 156 km). Driving from Kumily to Munnar was breathtaking, crossing mountains and valleys of spice and tea plantations. We stopped for lunch along the way for a typical Keralite village meal with parootas, fish curry, omelet and fish fry and of course, my favorite chaya too. We tried putu bambu and avial near a tea shop at Madupetty Dam. On the way down from Munnar back to Trivandrum, we stopped along the highway 79 for kalle (toddy) & liver curry at a local parlor. At Kotamangalam, we had late lunch of chicken fry and chapati. Hotel Munnar Inn. Tel: (0486) 530736. E-mail: mail@munnarinn.com. Next to main bus terminal and besides river. New and well-maintained.
