Chapter Six

After we had started making a complete survey of the entire place, we found out that it wasn't as bad as our original thoughts. It was going to need a lot of work, but hell, what else were we going to do this summer?

I wiped my finger across one of the windowsills in my room and wrinkled my nose at how much dust was on my finger. I sneezed and went to wash my hands off in the bathroom. When I came back out my friends were surrounded around Nick and talking to him.

" Uh, hey Nick..when did you get here? " I smiled politely while glaring at my friends sharply. They slowly and surely backed away.

" Just a second ago. " He grinned at me. " You look nice. "

" Aw, thanks. " I blushed some. " But, erm...let's get going! " I went over to him, grabbed him by the arm and waved quickly to my friends as Nick and I went out the door.

Nick laughed and gently intertwined his fingers with mine. " Why the hurry? I think your friends were nice. "

" Uh, um, " I hesitated. " I just wanna get out and see the city! I'm just anxious, that's all. " I shrugged my shoulders. I wasn't sure why I didn't want to tell Nick that I knew who he was. I knew that I wasn't being honest, but then again, he never asked or mentioned it, so why should I? I glanced down at Nick's hand wrapped with mine and smiled to myself.

" Well, let's see. Times Square is going to be really busy right now, so we'll avoid that area. " He glanced down at his watch. " I figured I could take you into a club or two, but not until later. But for now, do you wanna just walk along the side streets? "

I smiled and shrugged again. " You're the New York expert. But, how are you planning on getting me into a club? I'm only 19.."

" Oh, damn it. Here I thought you were 32. " Nick used a sarcastic tone and laughed. " Don't worry about it. I have my ways. " He smiled evily.

" Wonderful. I'm dealing with a psychopath. " I groaned and Nick gently bumped into my side playfully. " Watch it psycho boy. " I glared at him for a second before bursting out into laughter.

Nick joined me and swung our arms up into the air. " You should love it around here. There's plenty of shops...at least I hope there are enough for you.." He eyed me suspiciously.

" Grr, " I grumbled at him underneath my breath, but smiled and dragged him into various different stores. " Oh come on! " I laughed as Nick tried to stop me from taking him into every single clothing shop that we passed.

" Ya know.." Nick looked at me.

" Know wha? " I grinned innocently.

" Oh Grr. " Nick sighed with a defeated sense. " One more store and then I wanna take you one more place before we go clubbing. "

" Okay. Well, I think I've done enough of looking around. Let's go to wherever you wanna show me now. " I smiled and actually shrank back a little when he wrapped his arm around my waist. I was taken by surprise because, one, I was shocked that I was this close to my dream guy, and two, I thought Nick Carter was shy around girls?

" Oh, sorry. " Nick backed off a little, with a cute and embarrassed expression.

" It's all right " I smiled and looked into his eyes. " I was just a little surprised, that's all. "

" Oh, aight. " Nick cautiously put his arm back around my waist and directed me towards a large duck pond. " Be careful where you step.." He laughed as we jumped around various objects of distaste.

When we got to the edge of the pond, Nick pulled a bag of bread crumbs out of his back pocket. " What else do you keep back there? " I gave him a strange look and he laughed at me. He handed me some bread crumbs and I gently tossed them onto the pond calling out, " Here ducky ducks! Quack quack. " Nick started laughing hysterically.

" Hey! What's your problem? " I shot a look at him that was strong enough to knock him over.

Nick continued to laugh. " Nothing, I've just never.." he laughed some more. " I don't think I've ever been on a date where the girl quacked. " He kept laughing.

" First of all, I'm just unique and if you can't handle that Nick Carter, that's your problem. " I grinned before realizing my fatal mistake. " Secondly, who said this was a date? " Nick stopped laughing and I looked at the ground for a second. " Shit, shit, shit, shit..." A few choice words continue to wander through my mind until Nick finally spoke.

" I didn't think that I had told you my last name.." He looked confused and a little fearful all at once.

I sighed and groaned to myself, realizing that I might've just ruined everything. " No, you didn't. I guess now is as good a time as any to explain this! " I started walking up away from the duckpond towards one of the benches.

Nick followed me and sat down next to me. " Before you say anything else, yes, I know who you are, but NO, I didn't know until you told me your name once we got off the plane.." I glanced at him and he looked slightly confused and possibly hurt. " If I am completely ruining things right now, just tell me? "

Nick looked at me and took a deep breath. " So you didn't know who I was when I met you? "

" No, I honestly didn't and I actually felt really stupid after it because I love your music so much. " I smiled slightly, hoping to receive the same.

" Oh okay..." Nick took another deep breath. " I'm usually really weary about situations like this, but you have yet to treat me differently from any other normal guy. You really enjoy putting me in my place, don't ya? " Nick smiled back at me and I was soothed.

" Hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. " I smiled back and Nick took my hand once again.

" Oh yeah, about the whole 'who said this was a date thing'?" Nick grinned. " I said it was a date. " We got up from the bench and started walking back towards more civilized areas of New York.

" I think the guys said that they were coming to this club tonight. " Nick glanced up at the sign that read: BAHA BEACH HOUSE.

" It looks cool, but are you sure we'll be able to get in--"

I was interrupted by Nick. " Hey Q! " He went over and slapped his bodyguard's hand. " I take it the other guys are here? "

" Yeah. " Q's voice was solemn and almost fierce. " Go on in. I've informed them about your friend too. " He nodded towards me and I took a deep gulp.

" Alright, thanks man. " Nick smiled and pulled me inside as the bouncer looked once and didn't look again. Once we were inside, Nick took me over to a booth where Brian and Kevin were sitting. " Hey guys, this is Lauren. Lauren, this is Brian the B-rokster and Kev. "

" Hey. " I smiled and glanced around at my surroundings.

" Hi Lauren. It's nice to meet you. " Brian extended his hand and I shook it.

I grinned politely as Nick swung our hands around. Kev kinda nodded his head towards Nick in a questioning look and Nick nodded back, smiling. " Well, It's certainly nice to meet you. " Kevin smiled and I breathed a sigh of relief because all of the silent communication was getting to me.

" You wanna dance? " Nick smiled at me and I shrugged as he pulled me out onto the dance floor where we found AJ and Howie dancing with some girls.

" Hey guys, this is Lauren. " Nick practically yelled over the crowd and music. AJ and Howie nodded, acknowledging Nick, but saying that they would talk to us later.

Nick pulled me close to him as if he didn't want to lose me and I grinned a little bit shyly at how close he was dancing to me, but I grinned and got into the spirit of the club with Nick.
