Chapter Twenty-four

After few hours of shopping, Angela got Nick an Armani shirt that’s dark blue, a FuBu sweater, cologne called ‘Ice Blue’, and about five or six Nintendo games. But she sensed that something wasn’t right, Sarah wasn’t paying any attention at what she’s buying today. “You okay?”

“I’m fine. Let’s get those presents set up!” Sarah parked the car at the driveway of the apartment.

“Okay.”

They began to take out the things and put them in Angela’s room. Busy with setting up the presents, Angela didn’t see Sarah took the receipt out the bags.

“Done!” Angela announced.

“Can you get me something to drink?”

“Sure.” As soon as Angela left the room, Sarah took the receipt that she took from the bags earlier and ripped it into little pieces, then pulled out another receipt that she made on her computer and dropped it on the floor near the front door.

Nick arrived with Marissa by his side. “Hi, Nick...and Marissa.” Angela said as politely as she could.

“Hey. I heard you went shopping today, did you have fun?” Marissa asked.

“Yeah, I did.” While Angela was at the door, Sarah moved the presents from Angela’s room and hid it in the food cabinet. Then she placed clothes she brought on the bed. Without making any noise, she tiptoed to the kitchen. “Angela? I need your help.”

“Be right back.” Angela told Nick.

*~*

“What is that?” Marissa picked up the fake receipt.

“It’s a receipt, wait...look at the total price?!” Nick exclaimed.

“Oh my god!”

“What was all the yelling about?” Angela re-entered the living room.

“Nothing, what did you buy today?” Nick smiled as he crumpled the receipt and shoved it into his pocket.

“That’s what I’m gonna show you!” Angela took his hand and lead him into her room. “Ta-da!”

“Nice skirt, did you buy anything else?” Nick asked, hoping that what he’s thinking isn’t true. Angela turned her gaze on the bed, and was in shock to find all her presents gone or rather, turned into designer clothes.

“I got you presents! What happened to them?”

“What presents? We went shopping for clothes.” Sarah peeked from the door and replied innocently. A chill began to climb up Angela’s back as she realized that it was a set-up.

Nick felt his heart being tear apart, the woman he loves dearly used him for money, and she lied to his face. “Why?” He finally said, his voice painful and angry. “Why do you have to hurt me like that?” Nick exploded.

“I got you presents!” Angela insisted, knowing that it was all too late, the clothes on her bed made clear to Nick.

“Well then, where are the ‘presents’ you supposedly got him?” Marissa added.

“Let’s get outta here, let those two talk it out themselves.” Sarah suggested, but it was more like a demand, she dragged Marissa out the living room.
