Chapter Fourteen

The fire caught on like a snake around it’s prey, as a matter, it was like a snake, the red flames soon circled Lilyanna’s petite figure, eating her up, burying her. Strangely, she didn’t seem like a person that was dying, the bright sunlight streaming down at her, making her dark hair seem navy blue in the light. The beam of light fell perfectly across her case, making her look like an angel bathed in Heavens light rather than a witch swallowing up by flames.

“Good-bye, Nicholas.” She whispered softly as the hot heat spread around her.

Suddenly, someone in the crowd gasped and point to something on Lilyanna’s shoulder. More murmurs began, those murmurs soon turned into loud statements. “There’s a lily on her shoulder!” A man yelled out.

His words shook Elizabeth like an electrical shock. “A lily?” She turned to Gloria, who’s staring at the woman surrounded by fire intensely. “Lily...” Elizabeth whispered as she jumped up from her current position and bolted for the platform.

“Stop her!” Alexander shouted in shock. But it was too late; Elizabeth had already reached it and was ripping off her gown to put off the fire.

“Your Majesty!” One of the guards attempted to stop her.

“Put out the fire! She’s my daughter!” Elizabeth yelled out, forgetting the consequences along with revealing the secret. Stunned but too afraid to question her, the guards put out the fire and helped Lilyanna down the platform.

“There better be an explanation for this!” Alexander glared at his wife and her so-called daughter then stomped off.

“There will be.” Elizabeth whispered as she embraced Lilyanna in her arms and silently vowed that she’ll protect this young woman until her last breath.

Nicholas was pacing like a caged animal when the servant came running with the news that Lilyanna wasn’t burned and every word Elizabeth had spoken.

“Are you certain? Mother ran up to the platform and declared that Lilyanna, my Lilyanna, is a princess?” Nicholas question while pinching himself on the leg, wanting to know if he was dreaming or not. The ripping pain answered his question.

“Your highness, it is true! Every single word!” The old servant reported. He had been with Nicholas for over ten years. He was like a mentor to Nicholas as well as an adviser and loyal friend.

“But how? If she’s the princess...then we are brother and sisters...” Nicholas muttered quietly. “I shall find out.” He stated as he left the room.
